I know I'am asking for a boatload of crap on this one. But it's true my IMX is stuck together. Anybody have any special tricks to solve this dilema. I've tried pulling apart till I was blue in the face with no luck. Thanks for any help you all might have. Jeff. laugh laugh

I have not heard of that since metal ferules went by the way side!I would guess you have some grit stuck in it.I have been having the opposite problem since I cleaned my rod and wiped it down reel heavy with Armor all.It keeps seperating when I cast!Try soaking it reel good with some armor all!?In the past I use to try pliars. laugh
good luck!!!

The basic method is to twist and pull at the same time.
If this fails place the rod behind your knees.Grasp the rod with one hand on the immediate outside of each knee with your knees close together, and thew joint in the center of your body. Now while holding both hands tight on the rod and twisting them in oposite directions, spead your knees placing outward force on the rod sections.

PS try to avoid the rod bending while you apply the force of your knees

Put the lower part of the ferruel on ice for a few minutes then try again.
After seperation coat the male part of the ferrule with Parrafin to avoid this in the future.

Onfish,

Glad to hear it came loose. You might tuck this trick in your hat in case of a next time. Have your buddy help out. Holding the rod between the two of you, you grab the rod on his side of the ferrule, and he grabs the rod on your side of the ferrule. Now, you place your other hand on the rod between yourself and your buddy's hand, and he does the same on his side of the ferrule. The scene should appear thus: The order of hands on the rod, going from you toward your buddy are 1) your right hand, 2) your buddy's left hand, 3) your left hand, 4) your buddy's right hand. Hope that explanation is clear (?). Now pull the rod sections apart.

This technique works. I've pulled metal ferrules that were installed with very high powered adhesives right off a bamboo rod when the ferrule stuck. By placing hands in the order described, the rod remains straight - critical to avoiding breakage - and the force of pull is most effective.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

I've heard of guy's putting candle wax on the ferrule to keep it from sticking together. Might try that to prevent this from happening in the future.

My Grandfather taught me when I was young to always rub the ferrule behind your ear before fishing each time. The oils behind the ear do a great job of keeping it lubed. Jack

I went through this summer on the deschutes. I had to pack the rod out on my back while riding a bike all the way back. I tried ice and tried the 4 handed approach mentioned above when I got home but none of it worked. I had multiple people try to get it off over the course of the next few days. The only way I got it off is when I finally thought about using rubber kitchen gloves. The grip you get allows you to really twist on the blank while you pull. Needless to say, it worked.

Also keep those mating surfaces clean. You don't want grit hiding in there to score your rod and weaken it at the ferrule. Keep some Q-Tips with you. It's a lot easier than rinsing it and then getting a face full or river water when you try to blow it out.

Bentpole beat me to it! Hair dryer on upper end (Female ferrule)...not heatgun, not candle or lantern!
