Kind of a rookie question, I know. However, I've never fished with anything for steelhead except bait or spoons. The guy at Sportco told me that he had just gotten back from the Sol Duc and nailed fish after fish with an aerofly. So I purchased a couple packs at Sportco. My question is this:
Do I let them slide up and down my leader like a corkie? Or do I slide the plastic tube that goes through the styrofoam portion over the eye of the hook so that it stays in place? I have no Idea. Also, do they really work that well or would I have better luck using my ol' favorite egg cure.
Thanks for all the help I know you guys will give me.

I fish them loose. They seem to get more action if you just slide them over the leader. I will also cut down some of the foam in low/clear water conditions to get rid of some of the white. Do they work better than good old corkies and yarn? Hard to say, mabey then again mabey not. I like to use them as my go to lure. When nothing else works I'll try a aerofly and it that dosn't work I give up and move on.

They work great. I have had great luck with marabou style in various colors for both winter and summer fish. I let them slide on the hook - I think the foam head makes them float well and I have not experienced any problems fishing them in this manner.

Don't add oil to them or they will clump up taking away from the action. Try adding a shrimp tail or piece of prawn to the hook. wink

NAW! don't waste your time with any old Aeroflys! everyone knows they don't work. The guy at Sportco just wanted to sell ya'some that's all, they'll just take up space in your vest, so send'em on over to me and I'll get rid of 'em for you wink

Papafish is wrong. Send them to me, I'll test them then send you the results, including exactly when and where to use them.
