Statewide WSR was defeated 5-4...next years regulation will be 1 wild steelhead per day, no more then 5 per year.

Isn't that a step in the right direction? If so, then hey, you should count it as a partial win, not a total failure.

Next year's regulation should be one commisioner per day no more than five a year. that pisses me off!

I would like to know how many of those commisioners fish for steelhead? Probably the 4 that voted for C&R of wild steelhead. Hey pimpinshrimp your right we should be able to catch and keep 5 commisioners a year to get their gene pool out of the system. I'm sure glad all of us went to that meeting in Vancouver. It was only a 10 hr road trip for some of us. The WDFW wonder why British Columbia has such better fish returns, they only need to look one place. Themselves.

That does not sound like an unreasonable compromise to me. There are a lot of "facts" that this bb has not yet settled. Why would one think that our commission is any different then we?

Yes a step int he right direction and certainly not a total failure.

Piminshrimp: Thanks, that last post made me laugh. Of course, officially I disagree but damn, that would solve some problems.

Nobody said this would be easy. If wild steelhead release is necessary to achieve conservation objectives, it may take a number of steps to get there. It may seem like the Commission's modification of Option 2 to 1 per day, 5 per season was a token action. But it's still significant. This part of the conservation battle is fought at the regulatory level, and they did take an action that moves slightly in the direction of improved fisheries conservation.

Abide by the game plan of conservationists and environmentalists over the years:
1) Never, ever, give up!
2) Outlive the *******s! (Edward Abbey)

Today's action was not a setback. It was an inch forward instead of a foot or a yard.

As for who nominates commissioners, fish (sport & commercial), wildlife, and sports groups, submit nominations to the governor. The governor makes appointments from that list. As always, political connections count.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

The as usual political "Good Ol' Boy" system is alive and well, so what's new? Anyone who is foolish enough to believe that commission boards made up of brown-nosers, and commercial fisheries plants, are in-fact going to really give a damn about anything but their own A--, is in for a lifetime of disapointment!

"If you want something done right, do it your self" as the saying goes. I will never kill a native steelhead, fish with anyone who would ( and that includes guides)(boy bet I'll be flamed for that one) or buy "wild" steelhead from a fish monger, retail outlet, or restaurant.

Will that really make a difference? it might, might not. Does it matter to you? it does to me. I can instill the concept of respect and concern for these noble and worthy fish, in my kid's and grandkids, they then can pass it along to theirs.

I can talk about it with friends, especially those who don't fish themselves, after all, we need their support.

"One step in the right direction" is an action that each of us can take everyday, we don't have to just be satisfied with the "Table Scraps" from WDFW.

This is my opinion, nobody asked for it and nobody has to like or agree with it, you do what ever you want. I will do what I can.

A BIG Thanks to Bob and everyone who has, and will continue to make it easier for us to speak as one voice. Because of their efforts, yours and mine, one day we can WALK in the right direction on issues like these rather than stumble-step our way along.

NOW, anybody C&R any chromers today? cool
