It's good to see that the government and tribes are willing to work closely with scientists to begin solving the complex issues surrounding declining fish runs. Unfortunately very little in the way of detail can be gleaned from the story you are referring to. Anyone like to post a link to the actual document/s this report refers to??

Caught the tail end of a 15 second story on KINGTV tonight, not even enough to figure out what they were really going to do.

I think it had to do with the initial draft of the
Hatchery System Evaluation and Scientific Review Group's findings. The rumors of hatchery closures have been coming from this report I think. They got the chinook hatchery wrong,it's McAllister Cr. not a Nisqually hatchery closing.....

Sounds like what they did to me at work. Went from a team of 16 to a team of 7.

"But hey, we're gonna be able to give the clients better service, and produce more 'cause we'll do it a different way!"

The old "less is more" principle. Only problem is they saw the savings short term, but not the costs long term, and the different way was never thought out.

Not trying to be a downer, but I'll believe it when they show me the results.

The media is kind of making it sound like there is some sort of written agreement and a solid plan. This press conference really just was given to show that all parties are serious about hatchery reform. The philosophy is a good thing. Its all about ranking the performance of the hatcheries by returning adults instead of released smolts. Just don't buy into the press wording that it will bring less fishing. It has potential to if we just sit back and don't let our voices be heard, but its not a forgon conclusion.
