im loving this topic that rich, cowlitz, etc started, go read all this, very insightfull, i dont think you guys have touched on another topic though, what about housing? despite the army corps, which are idiots by the way, and the tribe, who are good people by the way, what about the development of the shore-line so the ppl can have their "senic view"? and what rich stated about wild release is absolutely true! we should never keep wild fish, they are the only link to the type of fishing we had back in the day, hatchery fish will NOT recover a system no matter where you get them from or how many you plant, they are inferior. another problem is we have guides on the penninsula who will take a cleint from seattle put in at the upstream 101 bridge on the sol duc and hammer a huge wild steely, thump it and the client flies back with it to seattle that night, to show "their epic battle", now while we dont have many that do this, there's still enough, and while these topics arent the full problem it is a good portion of it....greed....and thats all it is, i mean a 4 or 6 fish limit?? give me a break!! oh and the wdfw, dont get me started, great workers, which im a member of,parttime, but its all run(like everything else in this world that matters) by politics, we cant do what we should because the ppl who arent getting their way call their beaurocrats can they give the dept. a raping with a k16 kwickfish...what can we do?? i expect by the time im your guys's age we wont have any wild fish left, except in alaska, but by then alaska will have our EXACT same problems...western culture...the annihilation of every thing good rests in its wake...

Seems to me at your ripe old age of 20 you seem to know it all. Keep up the good work cause when you get to be older, you tend to get real stupid. Aging does that you know.

Where did you get this information? They still teaching that in school?

How far back in the day can you recall at 20?

They must be lucky to have you part time I'm sure they could learn a lot from your vast experiences to get them going in the right direction, politically, I mean.

okay, first off,i said WESTERN CULTURE you idiot, that includes ALL ENGLISH PEOPLE (IE, europe, canada), and i love america but, to be fair you must admit faults in a country, do you think we are perfect skaguy?? a trip down to your towns "lower clas" section should prove you wrong, if we were then no one would have problems....
SECOND OFF
the army corps. of engineers are/ or where idiots, okay they might not be too bad right now but who do you think put all those dams in and supposedly did research on how the fish would be effected?
and tribes, not individuals, are usually good ppl, sure some might be a-holes and that taints the whole bunch but dont judge then because of those idiots, ive only witnessed one so-so tribe and thats the quileauttes, only because they have done some fishing practices i didnt think where ethical, yah and ska its because of bigits like you that MOST tribes have a bad wrap.
THIRD OFF
sure back in the day for me was in 1986 when i caught my first steely with my dad but in forks, at least, there was enough (truely)unknown creeks that i can relate to rich's comments on his early days..i was there before most knew a bout goodman creek...and i saw forks turn into what it is today..
FOURTH OFF
Do you work for wdfw?? do you know how they run?? most dont so i was just stating that we cant do all thats expected of us, cause we are everyones little whipping b*tch, and about my vast knowledge?sure i may not know as much as you but is a knowledge of buttplugs that important?? I work durring the day doing surveys and go to school at night full time, plus i volunteer for my old high school for their biology class, so when you are doing that much (whether you think its good or bad)to help ppl come back and post something..and YOU GUYS are not old but odds are im younger than most you, and you dont seem like a bad guy just as rich said "not very nice"..jk..i dont want enemies so i'd actually appreciate your comments back, wait scratch that..

Ya sure the tribes are great. I really like it when I see the nets across the whole Nooksack river. I would like to know how those nets let those Native fish go.

Dave I'd like to buy a vowel.......

Hedgehog;
Western culture is the best we have going for us, sure we have faults but our lower class still has more than 2/3 of the worlds population. Hell if you have food on the table that is still more than most third world countries have. Most lower class western cultures have that.

Army Corp of Engineers did build most of our hydroelectric dams and gave us the power to become what we now are, albeit at the expense of our fisheries. Are you ready to jerk them all out and let what remaining fish we have spawn on sterile mud flats, all the while you set in your hundred thousand home staring at a blank television waiting for a dead microwave to cook your dinner because of no generation plants. I don't think so. Most of the recovery of the habitat behind those dams is never going to be reclaimed in my lifetime let alone yours.

Tribes, I have no problem with tribes or Native Americans. I have friends that are Native Americans and I have the utmost respect for all Natives. What I don't have respect for is the waste that is seen on a daily basis during the run seasons for salmon harvest by tribes. One dosen't have to look far to see it and it is not concentrated on just a few "Tainted Indivduals" . If you have not seen it, then you have not wandered to far in to the woods lately.
I just feel there is much more money to be made by the "Tribes" if they would take to Guiding and maybe put some money in their pockets instead of putting "Gut Slashed" fish on the banks and boat loads of "Kitty Chow" into the present day economy. One must admit that Casino Gambling is a huge success! Money from "net fishing" is profitable after expenses in a declining market, get real!

Quote:
I don't think most are ethical, yah and ska its because of bigits like you that most tribes have a bad rap
Hedgehog, most tribes got the bad rap syndrome with no help from me. This is the year 2002 and I have moved on from the 1800's when most of the Natives were exploited, maybe it is time for the rest of the tribe to move on and join us in the future, cause there is No Future in the Past. We can only learn from the past, in fact history helps us not to make the same mistake twice, sometimes. If we lose our remaining wild salmon and history proves that native netting along with a host of other known wrongs such as loss of habitat, dams, pollution, etc., was part of the cause, well I for one am not ready to accept tribal netting or commercial netting on endangered stocks to continue. If that makes me a bigot well....Sorry!

No I don't work for the WDF but I know more than you know presently about the inner workings of governmental politics. Yes, you younger employees get to be the whipping boys because you just don't know yet. You will learn, if you plan to become a governmental employee, knowledge of buttplugs, does come in handy, in case you may need to put one in your mouth if it means keeping your job. Does that make it right? No! Sometimes in politics that is just the way it is.

I applaud your willingness to carry the load that you are, most young people your age don't have it together as much as you seem to. You will go far!

No, I am not a bad guy, I am a nice guy. I was just prompting you to think some and become more inquisitive about the world around you, instead of firing both barrels and then looking to see if you hit anything. Once again welcome to the board.
smile

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. smile
