So, I was in the store the other day, "browsing" the isles, when these caught my attention. They jumped out at me and said "Try me, we know where over-priced, but we should work in front of a plastic worm." So I said, "I'll give you a try." Has anyone ever tried these and what do you think? There made out of hard plastic.



Now, my other questions is about the dreaded pink worm. I've heard theories on how to rig it with the hook in the front and about the hook in the back. What are the pros and cons of doing each, and what not have both?

Hey, let's not all post at once now. Bob might get mad... Here's some things I came up with while goofing around.

Wow, guess I'm gonna have to get me some of those 'funky birdies' to go with my orange worms! Could give me the extra edge! I don't know about that looong worm with the double hook though. Is that any good? Guess you'll just have to see by trying it out.

I have also tied the worm with the tandem hooks,then I'll slip a bead and bullet weight over leader. I've only used the setup one time but it produced a small 5-6lb. brat. Thanks for reminding me I still have a couple tied up in one of my tackle boxes!

Anybody else going to help me out on this one? RT, I know your big into rubbers...

KISS. Keep it simple, (insert whatever S word you'd care to hear).

A single hook at the ass-end of the worm is all you will ever need.

I might put something at the top of the worm for floatation, to keep it off the bottom on a drift, but I don't think I'd go for movement.

If I wanted movement, I'd probably just drift a birdie drifter or spin-n-twist through the slot to see what might whack it. Then again, those involves beads and other complicated stuff, so I generally don't do that too often.

I gave up "RT'ing" a long time ago and just use the basics. Seems to work for me.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with steelhead so someone yell at me if this is wrong. It seems like you can catch lots of steelhead on just a little rocket red corky. The fish can see the corky just fine. So then you switch to a big huge bright pink worm. A pink worm can be seen very easily by steelhead. Why do you want to add a big flashy spin-n-glow to it? Just curious what you all have to say.

The Pink worm became popular in British Columia about 10 years ago. The fast moving spring runnoff eroded banks and deposited worms in the river. A worm floats downstream with no internal action,it follows the current seams and rides close to the bottom.
Duplicating this action, BC fishermen used a float and allowed a dead drift down seams.
In low visability they chose worms up to 6"long;for high visability they chose 3 or 4 inche worms.
Plastic worms make a very durable lure for fishing turbulent ,rocky streams particularly pocket water . However they have bee very successful in many kinds of water.

Hey Matt, don't speak ill of the Spin-N-Glow ahead of the pink worm. I have used small Spin-N-Glows ahead of a couple of beads and a pink worm while backtrolling behind a diver, usually a Hot-N-Tot. Works great for steelhead, chinook and silvers. Basically the pink worm takes the place of a sand shrimp. Deadly combo!

btw, I ditto Jack's post above. That combo also works great for drift fishing, deep swings, and short cadence backbouncing; especially in water with some color to it.

Also Matt, try some of the colorful curly tail grubs - in pink/white combo, red/black combo, and others. Multi-legged small rubber tube jigs work well in many color patterns. There just are a lot of wiggly colorful rubber thingys that steelies will take. Experiment! ... How have you done on that yellowish colored worm?

Matt didn't mean to put you down or anything, I was just curious. Next summer I'm going to try some of the curl-tail worms. They look like they will work awesome. You can get just about any color you want and they are cheap. I've got some that have a purple body and a pink tail that I want to try out. Good luck with your experimenting!
