beerman, two things...

First: spend the $ for Bill Herzogs book on "Drift Fishing". Read that and you will have the pseudo part of expert down! cool

Secondly: ALWAYS believe that you will hook one on the next cast! Positive mojo will carry you through those tough stretches!

Good luck!

Beerman, the next cast thought process will surely be tested again and again when it comes to fishing for Steel...believe that!

FJ is right. Every good steelheader goes through slow times, but the ones that learn something from it have less of those "slow times." Confidence is a huge factor, including right gear and presentation to match conditions.

Try to master one technique before you experiment w/ another... Being in the right place at the right time is usually helps wink

I believe he means what is the biggest steelhead you've all caught. Not size of...well anyway. My record steelhead is a 14/15 pound hatchery winter run. shocked Don't even ask what my personal record salmon was... shocked shocked

Herzog's book is great, like the guys said above, lots of info and great color pics. Team that up with Herzog/Amoto's video, Steelhead Drift fishing (fairly new, from Amoto publications) and you will have 2 good visuals to get you started. The video can be bought on the internet, as well as the book I believe, from Amoto Publications. Also, pick up a subscription to Salmon Trout Steelheader magazine, this has some good tips and great reading on those days when you can't get out to fish or the rivers are blown. Good luck, and one more thing, check out Bob's Tips page. Justin.

keep on trying is some great advice.

use to fish 3 months a year, and only come up with 1 keeper out of the whole time (1 keeper, and there were 3 of us)

went like tha for about 3 years.

Now loosing a good fish just makes me love fishing any more.

Keep your head up so you see the strike laugh

Pay attention to this site!!!

Take this from beginner to beginner get Herzogs book.

I dont know if its such a good idea to get started... You will be hooked more than you think. I started in December hearing all of the guys say "You'll give up snowboarding as soon as you get into one." I'm thinkin Yeah Right! Theres no way i'll ever be giving up snowboarding. I was also working at Stevens Pass at the time. Well as the story turns out last time I went Snowboarding was before Christmas... I am no longer working at stevens pass... And guess where all of my money goes... You got it!!!! STEELHEAD.

Tyler

I'M HOOKED!!!!!!
