Fished the Sauk from Darrington to the mouth of the Suiattle. No steelhead, but we hooked AND RELEASED smile a few real nice Dollies...

FYI...
The dangerous logjam is still there about half way down this float. It is marked by a post w/ life jacket about 100 yards above it. Get out and walk your boat from the drop just above the log jam.

Can anyone tell me why that beautiful park and launch at the 530 crossing is locked down?

Someone told me it was built just for the summer rafters, for the stretch from the Whitchuck to the bridge.

Sauk River from Whitechuck to Darrington:

Short answer is that it's closed this time of year, so if that's why you're wondering, don't bother.

If you're curious about the rest of the year, it's an absolutely gorgeous piece of river, but not much in the way of fishing. By the time there's really much in the way of winter steelhead there it's closed.

Fish on...

Todd.

I've always had the impression the Sauk doesn't receive large numbers of fish but the fish that do return tend to be larger. Would you say that is accurate?

I probably would have checked the regs before floating it, but thanks for the heads up. How does the Sauk fish for salmon? It seems like perect large fish habitat...

I was wondering the same thing about that new launch and park there below the Siuattle. That's bull**** that we all paid for it in one way or another and don't really get to use it.

BTW - farted around up there from the bank Sunday and didn't touch a thing. Lots of changes to some of my favorite old bank holes. Sad.
