Have heard thru the grapevine that a possible boundary change that could move area 11 up to the lighthouse at Alki/Restoration point. Could open up the possibilities for guys with 14' boats to actually launch out of Armenie during King opener and not wait around for the Elliot opener or reeallyy nice flat days to fish around the sound.

Has anyone heard the same or is this just fishfull thinking? Imagine the possibilities eek eek eek

I haven't heard that rumor, but have heard a different one where they would separate out Elliot Bay and have en extended season in there due to better returns on the Green River run.

I'm waiting to hear back from some of the guys in our club that went to the North of Falcon meeting yesterday.

Yea, it's long overdue. With the Southworth fishery in particular, keeping the line where it is doesn't make sense. On an outgoing tide, the fish go around the corner into area 10, and on the incoming swim back into area 11. And do all of the guys out there pay attention to the line? Ah, NO! That line is abused plenty, and are any area 10 endangered fish conserved because of that line? I think not. The same is true for Dolphin Pt. on the Vashon side. Same line, same abuses.

For a couple of years, they created a triangular bubble with some boundaries that allowed Pt. Southworth to be fished on both tides. Even if they had that bubble again, that would be better than the current line.

Where did you hear this? Is this from the NOF meetings or some WDFW source?

Don't hold you're breath... if they move the line the Tribes will ask for a new impact study and they just don't have the money for that. Just remember the Tribes get the last say in a closed door meeting with WDFW

Even if true I'd not get too excited as it can't happen until the commision goes thru another major rules change process. Not gonna happen this season...maybe the next.

I read it somewhere to, like a temporary line change this summer for kings and try to get it permanent because the runs up north have little or no effect down this far. thats what I read somewhere. Ben I'll look for it

Tried to see if I could get any more out of anybody a the show, but no lucks. Like I said this was just thru the grape vine, but didn't mean ruffle too many feathers. Did get to sit in on Tony Floor's seminar, but didn't get to talk with him at the show. Guess the whole point to close the North Sound was to help with the Cedar River run, and a few rivers up north, but kinda interesting that they would open up Lake Sammamish for Kings due to the abundance and I understand, there is no way to discriminate which fish goes where until after the Ballard Locks. Just think if they did move the line up on how many more spots would open up on the west and east side of the sound for guys with smaller boats and how much more revenue it would mean for the retailers that are directly and indirectly related to this, (fuel, food, bait,etc...) especially when the state could use the Benjamains. This could also help fisherpeople for a better reference point where the boundary line would be. Think I would rather see enforcement people get the person that are trying to poach than had gone over the line trying to play a fish. Besides that, when you put a boundary line where you know damn well a few hundred yards north of the south worth ferry that there's prime spot for Kings, or just north of Dolphin, Allen bank is calling you to drift over it, and the line at Brace has it even closer yet. A line from Alki lighthouse to Restoration point....dosen't take a rocket science or Jeff Koenings to figure this one out.
