I've had my quantum spinning reel for quite some time now and it just recently got really hard to reel so i put some lube on er and it was fine. Is the bad for the reel? I amigne so. Also i have a chronarch that i got for christmas (have put it to alot of use) and is still good as new. should i lube it up now, wait for a while, or should i have done it a while ago? Thanks Tyler

Once a year at least, more if I get out a lot. Except this year. I'll skip it.
Some lubes get kind of tacky with age though and should probably be removed and reapplied.

Concerning your spinning reel. If it is pretty old, or you have used it alot I'd tear it down, clean and lube it. If it was hard to reel before lubing it, it probably needs a good cleaning too. I'd leave the Chronarch alone until a little later in the year. Give it a tune up right before you start chasing summers. Remember a little goes along way with oiling your reels. Too much can be as bad as not enough.

Another thing I forgot to mention...use oil where it says oil, and grease where it says (assuming you have something that tells you what to use, and where) grease. Greasing spool shafts on a baitcaster that should use oil, for example, will slow it down.

After we pay taxes (and we WILL be PAYING this year, in spades ) I'll be looking at a drifter and I'd like to get a shot at plugging for those guys. Either way, I'd like to get after them a little this year. Last year they were mostly a midweek luxury that I couldn't afford.
