My buddy took the initiative to book a guided fishing trip to the Columbia R. for next Wednesday,April 3rd. Now from what I have read on this board the fishing has been spotty at best, with the river being netted heavily. My question is do guides ever call the client back and say " If I were you guys, I would give it another couple weeks, and we'll re-book the trip"? Since I have never fished with this guide before, or know his name for that matter,do you feel it rude for us to cancel at this date? I hate to pay for a eight hour boat ride but, also feel it only fair to him(I'm also self-employed)that things like this should be discussed! What is a reasonable amount of time before you cancel on someone? Or, on the other hand what is a reasonable amount of time to wait for the guide to call my friend? Do any of you have any clear cut answers for me or is this time of year always such a crapshoot that i should just take it in stride and say "Thats fishing"? Any thoughts anybody has on this matter, guides or fisherpersons would be appreciated. Thank you, Sid Fishious.

I'd ask him where he's fishing at. If he is a good guide you will catch fish on the 3rd. He's still going to show you what works, even if you don't catch anything. I think you'll catch something.

My guess would be that the fishing on the 3rd will be different than the reports you have been getting, it's history. I just look at the WDFW creel stats. I would stay put. wink

Thinks could change in a big way in that much time.

If you're concerned call the guide as soon as you can and talk about it with him.

I have to agree witht the others, fishing should pick up by the 3rd.Hell it should break loose any day now. We were marking a lot of fish yesterday just didn't find many biters.

Guides make a living at fishing they can give you the best report possible. Went on guided trip 2 years ago for winter steelies every report said fishing was bad. We landed 11 fish and all three of us went home with limits. Not to bad in my book. I have a friend that is catching some springers every day that the tides are good for his style of fishing. Ive never seen him fish with anything but herring. Good luck
