Last year during the time I was a moderator for this BB, I held a fishing tips contest. Use the search feature to access the valuable ideas forthcoming. Matt's tip was a website url that showed satelite close up pics of nearly every thing imaginable; including remote roads to remote fishing areas.

The contest winner, Bobber Down (Matt Caskey), won a fishing trip for himself and a guest (Doug) for spring chinook. We went after em today. Stew joined us late, after getting a tooth pulled by a dentist, early in the morning. It was a lady dentist so he couldn't cry as usual.

We fished a very slow Columbia out of St. Helen's. Saw only 2 fish caught out of scores of them. Then after chewing down some lunch I drove my sled up the Willamette Channel a ways. In about 4 hours up there we got 3 hard take downs, landing 2 chrome spring chinooks (one by Doug and one by me). The other one stripped the entire prawn off my rig, without getting impaled by the 2 hooks. Reminded me of coho in that respect. ~~~

The Willamette is running about 3 or 4 degrees warmer and has a little more water color than the Columbia; both of which can improve the bite on bright sunny days. We also heard of a good bite going in the lower Columbia; particularly out of Cathlamet Boat Basin.

It was a pleasure meeting Matt and his guest Doug. Fun guys to fish with.

Hey KB, since you asked, they took some pics of the dual chromers for ya. smile They likely will post it here after getting them developed in a few days.

Can you please post that URL for the satelite photos again? I did a search and couldn't find it.

Thanks!

Hey Bigdog (e-mail) and Pwerstrokincowboy (like the moniker!), I tried using the search with 'fishing tips contest' and it didn't find it. Matt will be seeing this when he gets back so hopefully he can post the URL then. ... I'm headin out the door with Wille Rower right now for a couple days of fishing the Sauk with Kid Sock (well, that's what we call him when headin for the pubs -- ah ... 'Rock and Row' aka Kid Sauk). Later

Alright I'm back on the computer now after a few days off. Well fishing wiht RT was quite the treat. Where else can here such high quality vulgar humor and learn the fine arts of catching springers at the same time? laugh Stew it was nice to meet you to and perhaps I'll run into RT you again at Buoy 10 in August (F5 maybe?).

O.k. the board needs to start a fund raiser for RT's boat trailer. It started the morning in the waiting room and ended up in intensive care by the end of day. In fact, RT, did you make it home on a trailer with the port rail broken in half and the port side rail sheared off? eek

Well I can tell everyone here the RT back's up his word. I won the tips contest well over a year ago and RT still honored the trip. Glad to see you did well on the Sauk. Cathlamet was somewhat decent last friday, but was ssslllooowww on saturday. Never saw a net out all day out of about 300 boats!

Thanks for the trip RT and I'm sure you and Stew will be fishing with Jerry Garcia and I sometime this August off of the beaches of Whidbey.

Hi Matt. Glad to hear you 2 made it home safe and sound. Fun fishing with you and Doug. ... Yes, finding out my sled trailer's wood rails were dry rotted the hard way is a good lesson in checking that out more often. btw, Sauk has been slow. Justin always has a plan B and C for such occassions, and we lucked out on a new push of big nates in another place than planned.

Forgot ~

Really looking forward to trying out the herring under the bobber in the upper sound with you and JG. That sounds like a blast!

Also Matt, if you know how to use the search feature better than me, try to find that URL when you get a chance. Thanks.

RT & Powerstrokincowboy:

Try clicking or typing this link and see if it works:

http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/default.asp

This site will unveil any zipperlip, except for any government facility (i.e. Bonneville Dam) that could be potentially targeted by terrorist eek

RT:

Ate some of that Willamette springer last night, Wow! that was damn good eating. Gives me the energy to make a run down there again real soon and target those fish again.

Thanks BD-

Wow! Cool site. With technology going the way it is, soon we will log onto the net and get a satellite with real-time video feed of the 50#'ers swimmin' up river, all from the comfort of our boat. Then our kwikies will be laser-guided to their lip!

Thanks for re-posting that URL.

See you on the river!

PSC:

It goes to show that you can visit this board just about every day and find out a little fishing tip that you didn't know before.
