Ok I have been thinking of two weeks in AK of fishing with some friends up there that have a 18ft Jet boat and want me to plan a trip.
We can do whatever and whenever in between the 15th of July and end of August,
So I will need some help deciding what to do. I would really love to get some kings and some sockeye (more kings then sockeye) we can also do a drop off fishing thing if you know of any good rivers that are only accessible by plain.

PLEASE HELP!!!
THANKS>>>>TAZZZZZZZ

Give me an 8wt flyrod, a medium rod, a medium heavy rod, a shotgun, an S&W model 29 with a 4" barrel and my .300 Win mag and anything with fur fins, or feathers is a target. The ultimate cast and blast. No ideas on where to go, just my dream.

I would fish the Keni for reds to start. My suggestion is go to the boatramp at the end of the road that on the south side of Fred Meyers in Soldotna. Go another two miles to any of the sharper bends and fish those points. Flip in close, no more than 15 feet from the bank. The reds follow the rivers edge. The reds will be gone before the 1st of August. When you have a good stock(you can have 6 or so per day) spend more time on Kings. You can only have 5 for the year. A good spot at that time is at the mouth of Deep Creek, about 40 miles south of Soldotna. Fish
a the north side of the rivers mouth. Don't quit
after taking your king. You will want to troll slowly for the Kings anyway and for those that have landed their King, troll a herring about 4 feet up from the bottom. The Halibut move into the area just off the rivers mouth to feed on salmon at the time you are planning to be there. The 2 hours before high flood and the hour after should be the best.Have fun and give us a report when you get back.

Me personally, I'd be camped out at the northwest corner of Noyes Is. (Cape Ulitka to be exact)mooching a herring in 70 ft. of water, big kings, stacked like cordwood, oh yeah, thats what I'm talking about. Oops, that was my #1 zipperlip.
Sorry, no Sockeye here unless you bring your seiner.

How abouts would you get to this Island and how far from Anchorage is it?
By the way what time of the year would you be there?

Thanks,

LOL-So AK KINGS do you think that it would be worth the trip or is there somewhere a little more reasonable?
Now remember we have a 18ft Jet boat- Do you know of any other possibilities for rivers that arent fished much....I think 200-300 miles in any direction of Anchorage would work.

Thanks,
TAZZZ

Sorry, I'm only familiar with southern, southeast Alaska. Is it worth a trip there? hell yeah, but not with your own boat. You have to ferry from Prince Rupert, B.C. (not cheap) to Ketchikan then from K-town to Hollis (not much cheaper)
If you were interested in hiring a guide or renting a boat it could be done quite reasonably, I could give you names cool and numbers if interested.

At that time of the year, the fishing moves to the outside i.e. open ocean.

On the calm days a sled would not be a problem...but those can be tough to come by in Alaska.

Well thats out of the Question...
I was looking at one of those web sites that you listed and it showed that there was some freshwater fishing, so is there some good rivers on sitka to fish for these beasts?

By chance do you no of any drop off fishing services where they drop you off any pick you up on a certain date?
or of any rivers that are less "known" about that would be suitable for a sled.

Better give the "The Big One" a call and book a trip.

If all else fails and the weather turns to sh!t, you could hit the Great Alaskan Bush Company. It's right there in Anchorage, and you won't even need the sled. cool

Drive north from ANC to mile 67 on the parks highway (Deshka Landing)
Jet down the Big Su about 30mi.
Turn right on the Yentna and go up another 35 to the mouth of Lake Creek.
The greenheads will be raging through there in the last two weeks of july.
Most kings will be at least half way up Lake Creek by the 15th though.
Try to go around the 20th.
I have hooked up on 3 out of the 5 samonoids on that time (nook, greenhead, pink) not to mention football size bows!
If your boat buddy doesn't want to go that far, check out the mainstems and tribs in the area, like Big Susitna, little Su, Talkeetna, Deshka, etc. Anywhere in the valley.
Of all the bush rivers avail. Lake Creek is the BEST in the Matsu. valley.
My cousin and I flyout yearly to Chelatna lake and float it (54 mi) on a 16'cataraft 5-7 days.
This my friend is pure pu$$y of a fishermans river!!
I'll be stuck this year down on the kenai in funny river during the dates you mentioned.
Will make a bush trip (not G.T. Charlies) from there this time though.
Aniakchak river!!
