I "fluked" the boat out and, with guidance from the Scotty site, I am a consistent .772v (DIW) to .894v (running) (within the .7 to .9 standard). Question is: Will the Black Box alter the voltage below these levels? Or, is there something else I can do to lower these levels (electrically challenged). I had a pretty good season at these ranges- corrected by setting the terminal gear back slightly further off the release. However, would like to hit those optimal ranges for Kings and Silvers.

TIA

Hey DR, The voltage range you mentioned is about right for a properly "zinc"ed boat, meaning that your underwater metals are being protected from corrosion. However, this range is too high for optimum fishing. You want to be no higher than .6 Volts. In your case the Black Box will lower your DR wire voltage to the "fishy" range and I cannot recommend your getting a "Box" strongly enough!
Good Luck, T.

Well worth the money for the black box. You can add zincs to decrease it more though. The .8 is way to high to Kingies though. Will blow them off your gear.

Thanks guys! How much does the B/Box run? I saw a similiar B/Box (Cabela's model) for under a $100. I imagine the Scotty is going to be higher huh?

What setting is the "fishy" one for Kings? My book says .700 is correct for king and with loss on the line due to depth it should be .800 (to get .700 at the ball) Sounds like everybody uses a lower setting. how low?

What about Silvers?

Toyman,
Which book are you using??? The Scotty book sez .6 and I have found that .625 to .650 is good for nookers. Silvers between .650 and .7. Trial and error will find it for ya.

Jeffhead - I am using the original scotty manual that came with my vintage black box. It is the old light bar model. Having way too high a voltage on the black box would explain alot.

Thanks

Toyman,
Here's a link to the Scotty USA web page that has the updated recommended voltages. http://www.scottyusa.com/blackbox4.html
