Seems to me historically most of the really big steelhead return in feb/march. As we move into april, even thou fresh native fish are moving into our river systems the average size seems to drop. My own experiences, and looking at bob's daily photos confirm this in my mind at least. All the recent fish look to have come from the same cookie cutter, Anyone else notice this phenomenon......c/22 confused

Seems as if we are having a late run down here. I put two 15# plus hachery steelies in the boat yesterday. I should have gone over to the F4 gathering sounds like my steelies may have out weighed the springer that took 1st prize. But rowing across the columbia did not sound like fun. No big numbers of springers showing yet.

K-bama, hope the weather was better down south than in the seattle area, if not it must have been a wet and windy ride down the river!! Congrats on the 2 big april steelies....c/22

As a general rule, the biggest fish on the coastal rivers come before April. But there are always a few big boys (and girls) left around in the latter part of the season.

Fishgal caught a 20 lb. hen with ReiterRat and JoJo on Tuesday, we lost a buck the same day that easily would have topped 20 pounds ... you can see a high teens buck on the next report that we got as the rivers were going out.

They're not all gone smile

I should have been more specific, I was talking about the OP rivers. Conditions and seasons permitting I mainly fish starting at the Queets, working north around the tip of the peninsula. Also including some of the smaller streams that drain into the straits on my way home. K-bama thanks for the invite just might take you up on it....c/22
