I didn't actually purchase a motor in Canada but I engaged in a pretty lengthy dialogue with a couple of dealers up there. The bottom line is that the outboards are cheaper up there but you have to watch out for warranty problems. Apparently some US dealers won't take a canadian motor on a warranty job. Yamaha USA is a different company than Yamaha Canada so this is sort of a gray area.

At any rate I'm attaching a couple of email addresses for some very helpful Canadian salesmen that may be able to answer your questions:

#1 Ian Binstead at Galleon Marine in Vancouver BC. ianb@galleonmarine.com
#2 Keith Karlsson
Sales Manager
Sherwood Marine Centre
(250) 652-6520
Toll Free 1-877-652-6979
boats@sherwoodmarine.com

These guys seemed to welcome yankee business and answered my questions honestly......I just found the deal I wanted down here so I never went up and actually made a purchase.

good luck

I purchased a big Suzuki and a small Yamaha at Campbell River Motorsports, Campbell River B.C., and did very well. I haven't had service problems so far.

My friend brought home a 9.9hp four stroke long shaft Mercury for just under $1600 US. A good $400 savings.

dances with salmon, i don't believe that is completely true, my 80hp mercury is canadaian made and was put on a canadaian boat, had a hydraulic trim problem warranty took care of it no problem, the only thing i've found is when looking up parts you need to mention its canadaian, for some reason the parts finder has a problem reconizing the serial numbers,

Ian at Galleon had the best CASH prices on Yamaha outboards of the dealers I talked with up North and in the US. I asked dealers down here if they could match the Canadian prices and no one I talked to could. I ended up buying used in Canada. My general impression is you will save $500-$1000 buying in Canada although (as mentioned) I was warned about issues regarding warrenty work.

Ian Binstead at Galleon Marine offered me a new 4 stroke Yamaha 115hp for $10908 Canadian which at the time figured out to be about $6775 US. This price included all the guages etc. which are apparently optional in the US.

Sherwood Marine offered me a new Honda 4 stroke 130hp for $7900 US.

The Merc warranty may be a different deal but these guys warned me that some US dealers (like the guy in Bellingham who loses the most business) wont take Yamaha Canada warranty problems. Probably the further south you are the less likely the dealer is to have an attitude about this.

Thanks Dances! I've got an 85hp Suzuki (jet) on my 16' Kenai which struggles with more than two people. I'm thinking of going to a 140hp. Do either of the 2 which you listed deal Suzuki?

Where are all the stolen motors going?

I heard a rumor they were going north to Alaska or Canada.
