Would it be worth my while to try for some springers on the Yakima this weekend? I'm going to be in Ellensburg for 2 days and thought I'd sneak out if there's a chance to hook one or two. It seems like it might still be early for them but if someone has heard otherwise, just a yay or a nay would be helpful.
Thanks

BillyBob,

As of yesterday the counts at Prosser were about a dozen a day. So far this season there has only been about 220 total wild and hatchery. The wild fish outnumber the hatchery fish 4 to one. The total run size is expected to be 20K. I dont't expect the fishing will be that good for two or three weeks. If you need help with specific areas to go, shoot me an e-mail.

I agree with Lip-Ripper. It is too early. The Yak is in good shape for flyfishing and it is fishing pretty well.

BillyBob, I'm the dude doing the creel census on the Yakima. I haven't checked a fisherman with a fish yet. But we have only been checking for a week. Hows that for straight from the horse's mouth? Maybe you can be the first. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll pass on it this time. I kinda thought that it might still be a bit early. I managed to negotiate a kitchen pass to spend a couple days on the Wind next week. That oughta take care of my fishin' jones for a while. Hopefully a few of those 157,000 springers that have gone through Bonneville will find their way into the river.
