Just looking for reports on the local Ling Cod fishing. How has it been? Anyone had any luck?

I didn't have any luck, but many did. I was at Edmonds pier last Sunday. I must have seen at least 10 nice Ling's taken. How I wish I could've hooked into one of those beauties.

RichFish,
What were you using? Try catching some sand dabs or small flounder first and using these as live bait. Any of the breakwaters in the Puget Sound area should produce lings as well as the underwater structures put in place by the department of fisheries.

Sometimes you can jig shiner perch around the piers and use a slider rig to fish them live. You can also go to some of the rocky beaches at low tideand look under the rocks for some eel like fish that make the best live bait.

I've also heard that the ling fishing has been pretty good in the Sound, especially towards Edmonds and down by the Narrows Bridge.

Check out the saltwater reports here on the Salmon University site:

I've never used flounders for Ling bait, how do you rig them?

If you can manage to catch some greenling they make excellent bait for lings, especially as live bait. Good Luck

picked up three for our boat today. Smallest kept was right about 11 lbs and the other two were 17 and 18 lbs according to the fish checker. All were caught on herring but we had one massive fish go for a green ling 3 times but couldn't get a solid hook up. This fish was probably 45"+ but would have been fun to catch none the less. The interesting thing about it is that we saw all 3 strikes and were only in 12 feet of water the whole time.

Deckhand,
Two hook setup. One in the mouth/lips to hold the bait on and one in the back for hookups.
