Heres the latest from Ford! Seems Chevy isnt the most powerful anymore! It has more HP but not more torque!(Horsepower is fast, Torque is quick).
Anyway just thought I would post it for the guys lookin at new trucks. Coarse theres still the tranny issues...
SUPER DUTY'S IMPROVED POWER STROKE DIESEL PRODUCES BEST-IN-CLASS TORQUE
DEARBORN, Mich., March 21, 2002 – Performance is at the heart of the F-Series Super Duty lineup, and Ford’s 7.3-liter Power Stroke® diesel V-8 delivers – now offering 525 foot-pounds of best-in-class torque on models equipped with an automatic transmission.
Super Duty’s 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel provides more peak power sooner than any competitive engine, producing 525 lb.-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. The engine produces 250 horsepower at 2,600 rpm. This is an increase of 20 lb.-ft of torque versus last year’s Power Stroke engine.
“Both commercial and personal use customers need torque to get the job done, and appreciate this increase,” said Tim Stoehr, F-Series Super Duty marketing manager. “We wrote the book on diesel pickups. This is just another chapter.”
More torque allows a diesel engine to move or tow heavier loads, while enhancing the vehicle’s performance feel. High torque ratings allow drivers to maintain speed without frequent transmission shifting and enable drivers to easily launch highly loaded trucks from rest. In addition, torque also enables drivers to maintain speed while negotiating steep grades.
Since its introduction in 1994, the Power Stroke diesel has received power improvements five separate times. In addition to torque enhancements, noise vibration and harshness (NVH) improvements have been made to the engine to make the engine quieter and more refined.
The 7.3-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel V-8 engine features direct injection, part of a low pressure electro hydraulic fuel system. Direct injection delivers fuel under extremely high pressure with precise electronic control, contributing to improved fuel economy and clean diesel emissions. The Power Stroke is built with cast-iron heads for increased reliability and durability.
Super Duty’s 7.3-liter Power Stroke is the best-selling engine in its class – gas or diesel – and outsells all diesel competitors combined. Roughly 70 percent of all Super Duty trucks sold are equipped with a Power Stroke diesel engine. Of the 1.2 million Power Stroke engines sold during the last eight years, 98.9 percent are still on the road today.
In addition to F-Series Super Duty models, the Power Stroke diesel also is available on the Ford Excursion* and E-Series* van, wagon, cutaway and stripped chassis models. The engine is built for Ford by International Engine Group, a division of Navistar International Corporation. Ford and International are currently developing the next generation Power Stroke diesel engine. Details will be announced later this year.
Ford offers the most comprehensive truck and SUV lineups in the industry. Ford’s No Boundaries SUV lineup includes Escape, Explorer Sport, Explorer Sport Trac, four-door Explorer, Expedition and Excursion. Offering the widest array of trucks with the strength to get any job done, Ford's Built Ford Tough lineup of trucks includes Ranger, F-150, F- 150 SuperCrew, F-Series Super Duty (F-250 through F-750), and E-Series van and wagon models.
* Excursion and E-Series have not received the 7.3-liter torque enhancements. © 1997-2002 Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Inc., Please see our legal notices and privacy statement.
It should be fun watching the Ford vs Chevy power increase war over the next 5 years! Too bad Dodge wouldent step up and put a BIG "D" in there truck! Cummins is a nice name even when your falling behind I guess! You,d think they would get a bigger Cummins! Coarse with Ford owning Cummins now its a easy way to keep the Dodge limited on power and there contract with the Cummins side of the company. I love dodges and had 2 before I got my ford. I diddent buy the Dodge because of the power rating and the Frame issues! Now that they have there frame fixed it will be exciting to see who does there new engine when there contract with Cummins is up. Or will Cummins continue to supply Dodge?

Just more hype from the marketing manager of Ford. We all know what F.O.R.D. stands for. And the wife says that the Fords are fat boys trucks. Come on over and put some heartbeat in your life. :p

Yeehawwww, I had a 99' Powerstroke... Great motor but extremely loud... Why don't for quit worrying about their power and start making a TRANNY that can utilize it... I now have a DURAMAX and it has 300hp and 520ft/lbs of TORQUE only 5 short of the Ford.. But It has the ALLISON tranny that is second to none.. I can't say enough about it.. Keith

For about $315 I chipped my Powerstroke Excursion. It now runs at 305 HP and 620 lbs of torque. Thats the middle setting that I run everyday. The performance setting is obsurd and I haven't tried it. (325 HP and 655 lbs.) This is my third PSD with zero problems with the tranny. You can have your first year NonDuramax, it makes a cute little picture in my rear view mirror.

Not only is the new Cummins the highest torque, it has gone to the in-line injection like the Chev and is just as quiet. I am interested to see what tranny they will put w/it? Maybe only manuels 6 speed like their commericals??

The Ford Super Duty body style will not change until 2006 / 2007 year The f-150 body style gets a change in 2004.

Am I the only one who is concerned with fuel milage? I like my Dodge with the Cummins because it has all the power I could want and still gets close to 20 miles/gal. Having more power would just be a waste; I can go up the Whitebird grade with my 8-1/2 camper fully loading and pulling my 18 ft boat at 60mph. I suppose if you want to drag race pulling a 6 horse trailer more power might be an advantage, and if that is what you want you can get the Chevy.
BTW, I have nothing bad to say about Fords or Chevys, all rigs have their good and bad points. I've owned a Ford in the past and I will not rule out a Chevy in the future. It all depends on who is offering the truck that fits my needs.

Its a man thing Lingo... Also I found out the Dodge desiel comes standard with the 460 ft/lb motor! The 555ft/lb is a option! I wonder how much if the standard is already around 4 grand!

I have found on my Cummings pulling a boat with my truck empty the truck has so much power the tires will spin if you floor it in third gear about 45mph. How much more power do you need?

KB, It sounds like your tounge weight is too light! If you cant do that without a boat you shouldent be able to do it with one! 10% of the weight of the boat should be tounge weight! (I think) bob D

Is Dodge finally going to offer a crew cab though? The Quad cab available now just doesn't have the room I personally need.
