In my opinion there isn't any where close to that river I would take a 2 yr. old while I was trying to fish. That child could be gone in an instant!!

Well Ken, I agree with Jerry. The fact that there isn't much of a flat enbankment, and swift current, doesn't help for a 2yr. old. The gravel sectioned from the parking lot to the rivers edge would possibly be the way to do it, but has been pretty crowded since the dam access to island is closed and so as limiting fishing area. Besides, sounds like you have an itchy finger and want to
go and try it.

Good luck, Robert

Go to Camas/Washougal, and fish behind the paper mill. There are plenty of shad that go through there, and the banks are much more kid friendly. If you drive up to the mill entrance, they will let you in to fish by the pumphouse, or at least they used to. There is a good spot there.

Wherever you decide to take your boy, under no circumstances get him closer than 50 yards to the river without a PFD (personal flotation device).

It's been bad enough with all the adult fishermen who have gone down this year, both in rivers and in the salt, but an up-and-coming future fisherman of two years old would be quite a tragedy to lose.

I'd guess the safest way would be to find a seat in a boat where the chances of slipping and falling is greatly reduced, and he'd never be able to get more than five feet from you the whole day. There'd also be a lot more room to fish with a toddler in a boat, compared to standing in line on the river bank.

I hope you find something to work out for you and that you catch a bunch of shad. No better way to start recruiting fishermen than to help little kids catch a few!

Fish on...

Todd

Ken, perhaps another venue might be in order, sorry, but im not too familiar with west side fishery. Eastern Wa is another matter, my boss got his two year old daughter into fish bigger than her pole. E-mail me for details. Perhaps someone from your area will step forward with some info instead of giving you a beating over spending some time with your son. hint hint eek
