Has anyone on this board had any success in intercepting the Vedder River white kings during their migration through the salt water? I would love to catch one of those monsters before they get to the river since I think that the white kings are premier for eating but their quality does not last very long in the fresh water. The white kings enter the Vedder in early October. Last year my son had 6 fish on and landed 2. One at 35 lbs and the other at 39 lbs. The four that broke off after not being able to follow any further included some larger fish. Does anyone know if these fish migrate along the west coast of Vancouver Island or take the inside passage?

I caught a white meated king off of Camano Island one year. A 27 lber. It sure was good eating. I think it was in June or July when I got it. It was so long ago I really don't remember. As I don't Salmon fish any more. I just thought that I would add this. :p

I've caught quite a few white kings in the Strait most of them over 30 pounds but I've always been told they are either heading to the Frasier or the Skagit.

The Vedder River is a tributary of the Fraser. You have probably been catching the fish that I am inquiring about. Do you recall which month you have been most sucessful in and which area?

Thanks

We used to get whities the first week of Sept. when we were fishin' the "rips' for hooknosed silvers at Pillar Point (East of Sekiu). The biologist always said they were Frazier fish, very "stubby" in size also. They were always a nice suprise!!!

Some of the resident winter blackmouth running round in the Puget Sound come from the Frazier Brood Stock. They are really noticable as far as the differance between the color and quality of the meat.

I got one off Mushroom Rocks two weeks ago, checker said it was from the Fraser River. The meat was excellent, maybe more like halibut than salmon.
