I've been boatless in Seattle for the last several years so haven't kept track of when the Silvers start showing. When did people pick up their first fish last year and when did the fishing really get hot?

You can catch Silvers in Puget Sound right now! Well, no, not really. You have to wait till July 1st this year. They tend to hang out in PS a lot earlier and longer than Kings do. There is also a bunch of resident Silvers too. Last year I was getting them at the begining of June all the way through September. Silvers don't hit the rivers till about mid September.

Little F:

Last summer when area 9 (Whidbey)opened on August 1st, it was good from the first cast all the way through the middle September before I left the beaches and concentrated on the rivers. I remember the last week of August and the first week of September being the hottest off of the beach.

This year area 9 opens on July 1. The fishery will probably be mostly a c&r fishery for the nooks early on, but I plan on walking the beaches around mid-July to see if I can fool an early migrating coho.

Good Luck and hope to see everyone out there. cool

Hey Little Fish should give me a call and come up to Port Townsend and fish Fort Worden or Fort Flagler State parks Not a ton of silvers for the July 1st opener but enough to get the itch for more as the season progresses.

PTFN,
Thanks for the invitation. I would love to come up sometime, but it will probably have to wait until this fall. My GF (girlfriend) bought a fixer this summer and I'm the primary person doing the work. Its all I can do to sneak away for partial days on the weekends. I'm hoping to get some time in locally (Elliot Bay) when the season opens.

PS Thanks to everyone else for the information. Can't wait till July.

Hey, PT: We'll be on Whidbey Isle next week fishing from the Fort Casey area.

We have most/all equipment and boat for the conditions and can handle anything we can get a hook into.

Any tips/info/areas etc you can provide are MUCH appreciated!

Hey PT-

I just e-mailed you, I'm interested in learning more about fishing out in front of Fort Worden.

Hey guys,

Kev emailed ya back smile .

And Doc like I told Kev most of my experience is from the beach but I have watched the boters troll what seems to be one key is not to deep this time of year out in the deeper waters(to many kings have to release them).

But ive seen them using cutplug herring, coho killers, and coyote spoons. The tide is important when closer to shore fish the flood tide.

When you get near the point itself watch were you are because the area 6 and area 9 line is off point wilson the other end is off partridge point on whidbey. makes a difference area 9 you can keep native and hatchery and only hatchs in 6.

Also were the tide rips around the point seems to be a good spot as it holds bait fish but beware of those little black diving birds(I caught one last year).

If jigging try a smaller Pt Wilson Dart or Buzz Bomb in white with green stripe(Im not sure of the exact color name). I use the Same Buzz Bomb in 2 1/2" from the beach and have done well.

A note about fishing to deep I watched a lady last year hook into a king that was easily 40# and her bf/husband hit the hook when trying to net it was a nice looking fish.

Hope my long windedness was helpful LOL!!!!! eek
