Went to the Barrier Dam yesterday. Got there about 5AM. There were several fisherman already there at the 400ft marker with a few steelies on the bank from glow balling. We must have timed the bite just right because in the span of about 1 1/2 hours 8 were caught. I was lucky to get a 11-12lb steelie. At 6:30 it went dead and I mean dead. No one caught a thing and most people were gone by 8AM. We stayed till 2PM.
If any of you are going done there its a early AM bite that lasts about 1-2 hours. We useds corkies, some did have hookups on bobber and jigs but couldnt hold them in the fast water. GOOD LUCK

Well if ya got a sled, have a friend with a sled or have to beg, borrow or steal a trip in a sled, the Cow is just rockin' right now. I went with some of the folks from another board yesterday and we hooked 10 fish and put 7 of them in the boat. A guide that we know also had a boat load of folks and went 10 for 14. Met up with them at the ramp and got some great pic's of 17 steelies stacked like cord wood on the ramp at BC. Got to say fishin' doesn't get any better than that!!! One of the best days of river fishin' and the best day of steelheadin' I have experianced. The hard part now is tryin' to figure out when I can get back down there!!! Good luck and tight lines, Jeff PS, They were all caught between BC and the Mission Bar freedriftin' corkies and shrimp scent or corkies and eggs.

Hey question. I'm gonna go down and try blue creek from the bank just to see what it's like. Should I float fish jigs, or drift corkies. Just wondering what everyone else does cause I don't want to like look an idiot out there. Thanks for your help.

Jig up by the creek until the sun hit the water then move down and fish drift gear.

Jeffhead I believe I saw the photos on another message board posted by AuntyM. Pretty impressive sight.
I went Monday. I fished from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Fished from Mission to Blue crk. I did not touch a fish. Had to cut my trip short as the tilt bracket on my kicker motor broke. I have been hearing good reports from friends but you have to be there when the fish decide to bite.

I fished the Cowlitz this morning, it was dropping like a rock and hotter than a pistol! I landed 6 and my partner landed 2, half those fish still had sea lice.

A friend and I fished from my sled yesterday above and below Mission. We landed 4 and lost 3. Saw lots of fish hooked above and below us. Did not go near Blue Creek.

Made a solo trip on the Cowlitz this morning. Launched at Mission at 5:30am and quit at 11:30am. Fishing was much slower than friday and a hell of alot more boats. I ended up releasing 1 and losing 1. Did not see any hot holes. Got both of mine about a half mile up from mission. I ran up above the Cabin hole and it was alot more congested up there.

Was up there Saturday with a couple of friends and the wife. The wife said " I would just like to catch a Steelhead sidedrifting just once". Well you know the story....she promptly put two nice fish in the boat and lost a third in the next 1/2 hour. ;)The looks I was getting from my buddies was chilling. I felt like I had to start apologizing to my buddies about her again. They each picked up a fish eventually. At least she wasn't kicking our @@sses while reading her romance novels and eating cheetos as usual.

Went down to the Cow last night right (my last trip before knee surgery) and glow-balled for a couple hours. Lost a mid-teens on a glo-ball and 6lb leader. Definitely fish all in the river. Bite has been best in the morning from I've heard, until the sun has been up for an hour or so. Then around 11a it kicks up for a bit, and in the evening it heats back up. Early early morning has been the best time, especially for the bankies.
