Lately I have seen a few drift boats and sleds anchoring up and running plugs. I always thought this was a salmon tactic. Dose this realy work on steelhead?

Oh ya, plugs are deadly on steelhead.

Most times we do not anchor up though, we slowly back the fish down river until they get mad and strike the plug.

Tadpollys rule.

Ya, I pull plugs also. But I thought that holding them in one place in the current was more of a salmon thing.

I have fished a few froggy spots that you actually row back up the river!

When we are in a stronger current, we will sometimes run plugs out under anchor, such as eating lunch, Retying gear, whatever.

I saw a guide using bait divers (plugs with the hooks removed) from an anchored position on the Cowlitz a few weeks past. They pulled three fish out of the hole we were fishing within an hour. Seemed pretty effective to me.
