It appears some fish have moved into the area...

Nailed this beauty this morning off Green Pt in 110 feet of water... on what else... Glo/Green Hotspot and Glo/Splatter back Sonic Edge spoon

Had the largest fished weighed in at Narrows by 1130 this morning.. Largest fish weighed in at Pt Defiance so far was 32#... We'll see where I fall in....23# is somewhat small for a derby this time of year...

OK... just came back from the offical weigh-in, I took fourth. Here's the run down on the sizes:

First Place- 32#
Second- 27#
Third- 23.4#
Fourth- 23.1#
Fifth- 22.14#

Few more in the 20# range. Lots in the upper teens................

Hey Sushi, if you are running down to that part of town you might want to check out the mouth of the Puyallup. Just opened up August 1st. It is a lot like Elliott Bay but not as tempermental. Meaning, you can catch kings all day long either jigging or trolling.

We had 5 people entered on 2 boats and we hit the water at about 4:30. They(the other boat) arrived around 5:00 and pussed out cuz the launch line was too long. What a bunch of weenies. LOL. Anyways, lots and lots of bait and saw alot of people with fish on but only saw a few landed. We got a 7# right away but let it go in anticipation of bigger. But Point D lived up to my expectations with no others caught. A few hook ups that went completely solid then were gone. Oh well. Also the fish checker said there were only 16 fish out of 52 boats that came in before us.

Downriggin', you were fishing by yourself in front of the Slag pile real early right? I think we were talking to you as we passed by and you hooked up right there but lost it at the boat??? We were in the the smoker craft osprey(black/red/white). Where is green point?

FFF,

Yep... that was me! That fish was roughly 15#. Amazing didn't even come off the release!
I think you had just released a fish prior to my hook up(?). I caught two smaller ones 5#-7#, but let 'em go because of the derby.

At the tide change, I shot over to Dalco....
At was dead as a door knob. When PD and Dalco go dead, I am outta there. On the way home in frustration, I stopped at Pt Fosdick... a few caught there, but nothing of size. So, I headed to Green Pt. (Green Pt is located across from the Fox Island sand spit.) Was down for 10 minutes when that hen rocked me. Lots of fish heading for Minter over that way...

Here's a link to Carr Inlet (Green Pt). Click on the image to zoom in. I fish just to the right of the trolling/mooching area. As far as a launch, I launch in Lakebay straight across the inlet.

Season??? Area 13 is open nearly year around!
May through September is a great time to give Green Pt a go..... If I truly had to pick a spot, this would be my number 1 in the South Sound- especially May and June...

Keep a tight line!

Hey Downriggin,
I usually launch in Horsehead Bay but haven't spent much time fishing Green. Which side of the point is best, the inlet side or towards Fox Is.?

Is the hot spot/spoon combo your standard setup? I grew up a bait fisherman but am not opposed to the plastic or metal. Depth? Do you usually fish on bottom or do they run shallow in the morning through there like most other places?

Sorry for hammerin on you for info but that is a place I've wanted to fish for quite some time since I can be there about 10 minutes from home.

Thanks for the info.

May/June, I fish the Fox Island side only on the flood tide. This is usually blackmouth haven. Bait schools up like crazy behind the spit. Look for them shallow in the morning (60'-100'). By mid morning, move out to 100'-130'. If the bait isn't there, move directly across the main stem of the current and fish north in the large pocket (eddy). There is another spit directly across from the FI sand spit and harbors a beached (in ruins) barge. Water in here if fairly shallow. Follow the 75'-95'. If you don't hook up in these to spots, troll with the tide between the barge and the daymarker on the pt. I like the 105'-110 curve here. An interesting note for you, summer kings heading to Minter will follow the north side of Hale's Passage up until Cutt's Island (roughly) before shooting across.

As far as fishing there for summer kings... If I fish by myself, I start in the top 50' of water until sunrise. After that, I am hugging the bottom. If there are two of us, one of us stays between 40'-80' and the other hugs the bottom. Blackmouth... 1 hugs the bottom, the other within 10'-15' of the bottom.

Three criteria for salmon. Hearing, sight and smell. I like the double glow Silver Horde spoons because they meet these three things. (1) The Sonic Edge has a lot of noise making qualities plus an Colorado blade attached to the ring above the hook which produces a slight clicking noise. (2) it glows for deep fishing, (3) Smelly Jelly (herring flavor).

I simple like spoons because of the above. Additionally, I don't like to use bait because, (1) I don't have to keep checking the bait wasting fishing time (2) I don't catch as many bottom fish.

I do have a secret that I add to the spoon, but we are going to have to go fishing to learn this trick from me.

Hope this helps!

You know one little trick I like to do to the Sonic Edge is put a little bend in it to give it a little more action!

Downriggin-

Thanks for the info on Carr Inlet/Green Point.
I will definitely try that area out soon.

Ever do any crabbing up in that area? I've tried a number of locations in Carr Inlet but haven't been very successful in finding dungees.

Thanks again.

I have only caught a few Dungees in the South Sound. Tons of BIG Red Rocks though. I drop the pots just off Green in 35'-40' or just off the rip rap ner the Fox Island bridge.

Rumor has it that the deep water in Pickering Passage (Harstine Island) holds a fair amount of Dungees.
