I was recently fishing for salmon and came upon this problem. I was using smelly jelly on my lure and flasher. Of course it get on your hands and line and anything else you touch. Well you guessed it also managed to get it on the release I believe it was on the line first. After that the release was useless couldnt keep the line in the release even using it on the heaviest setting. Luckly I carry 4 extra's and switched to a new one twice. tried cleaning it out with a rag no luck. they were scotty released the kind that pinch and also the offshore release did the same thing. any ideas how to get this stuff off. They are soaking in a tub of hot soapy water now If that dont work I will try a soak in bleach. any of you ever have this problem??

Troller,

I carry Ivory soap in the boat for this very purpose. First, lather up your hands, clean the front portion of your line....
Second, clean the pads of the release with soap and a cloth and rinse thoroughly.. That sould do it!

Downriggin,

Do you use a bar soap or is it a bottle of dishwasher soap?

Try using the "Bumble Bee" type releases. Never had this problem with one of those.

I belive that you can also replace the pads on the off-shores. I have not had good luck with the scotty's but I also run power pro line.

Hey Troller,

Try spraying it down with WD-40,
and then scrub the hell out of it
with a rag.
