Wife loves shellfish. Since I got the new boat I need to make her happy. Anyone have some input on places to take a 17.5ft boat to get some crab? What do you like to use for bait? I have heard that turkey works well.

If your willing to make a run down south a little try off of the tahuya river in the flats you can launch about 10 minutes away at a park. best bait salmon heads , chicken, turkey all work well I save the heads and use them first their free and second last way longer than chicken or turkey. We were down their 2 weeks ago crabbed two days with two boats and caught 72 crabs. All dungeness.

Hood canal is hard to beat. Tahuya, Dewatto, Potlach and all the way north to Seabeck is usually loaded with Dungeness. Look for a fairly uniform sandy/gravelly bottom (no rock outcroppings or underwater cliffs), Fish turkey legs in 70 to 90 feet of water and its pretty hard to miss........these guys are voracious......good luck

Try anywhere along the shore South of Everett launch....then run over to Possession and soak a line.

Just south of Redondo is good. Port Susan/Kayak Pt. St. Park on the Tulalip Rez is also excellent.

Both areas have launches that put you right in the crab. You don't have to motor far.

The #1 crab getter is turkey legs.

Another vote for the Canal. Went out of Twano on Saturday & limited (12) in 3 pulls. I like to use the salmon & steelhead heads & backbones. The heads have alot of oil in em. The last time over a few weeks ago I pulled some of the heaviest pots up ever. They were like half full. On Saturday we needed 3 more on the last pot & there was like 5 keepers. I was culling the small ones & the ones with small claws. But on the way in I looked in the buckets & threw 1 too many back. Oh well, 11 big Dungi's is plenty. Took a whole 5 minutes to shuck my 18 oysters too.
