Hey, all...

I usually don't ask questions when I can find the answers myself, but what the hell, I'm being lazy...

Is Westport or Ilwaco open for any salmon off the jetties for this weekend? If so, anyone been doing any good?

Thanks!

Todd.

Todd:

The N.Jetty in Ilwaco is open anytime area 1 is open or the Buoy 10 fishery is open (consult regs-eastside rivers/columbia river). I thought I read something about the ocean just now closing for chinook, but the Buoy 10 fishery remains open meaning the N.Jetty will be open for both chinook & coho (wild release).

The N.Jetty fishery starts typically heating up about now. Concentrate on fishing an hour before and after the low and high slack tides. Wear felt soled shoes on low tide otherwise you could break your neck on those slime covered rocks!

Thanks, BD,

I think, as the regs stand today, that tomorrow, Saturday, is the last day for chinook at B10, but that it's still open for clipped coho. I'm guessing that this would include the jetty at Ilwaco.

Westport is remaining open for both chinook and clipped coho.

The rig I've used there before is the big bell shaped float, with two-three oz. banana sinker, followed by a five or six foot leader, double hooks, and a herring or anchovy, whatever seems to be around.

I've caught a couple of nice silvers there doing that...but didn't really know what I was doing. What's the optimum length from the bobber stop to the weight? I was using about fifteen feet last summer.

How about buzz bombs or darts?

Thanks, again.

Fish on...

Todd.

Todd:

Buoy 10 is still open for two salmon either kings or hatchery coho, thus the N.Jetty remains open for the same bag limit restrictions.

Rigging:

Beau Mac large sliding bobber to a 2oz crescent sinker, 3-foot mooching leader. I usually set my stopper at about a five - eight foot depth when fishing the jetty. Remember fish look up not down. Cast out and then let your float slowly swing in the current until you get close to the rocks and then slowly reel in just enough to keep your hooks off of the barnicles.
