Greetings,

Here's a useful question: What's the best way to spool line on spinning reels and baitcasters in order to prevent line twist? I've noticed if the line spool is facing label down or up (using Maxima) it can cause viscious line twist when putting line on spinning reels. This when letting the line unwind off the spool onto the reel. Usually I use a pencil or something and roll line off the spool onto a baitcaster and it works ok.

Any helpful insight would be appreciated and have a nice weekend.

useing the pencile is good, what i usually do is use the pencile or what ever through the spool and let it roll off the spool, then i take it out side hook it to something solid at the end of the street and start unspooling it of the reel, then wind it back up with tension on the pole (slight bend) and you should be good to go, no twists, doug

Hoh - My advice is don't use Maxima on your spinning reels. I find it much too stiff and it twists terribly regardless of which way you turn the spool. Stick with Maxima on your baitcaster and Trilene Big Game for your spinning reels.

On my spinning reels,I make sure the line comes off the spool of line the same way the reel is rotating. I've never really had any trouble with twist, but I only use spinning reels for trout,so only 4lb test.

What HBP said. Use this thechnique for both types of reels. Maxima does not work well with spinning reels, I put Izorline on my coffee grinders.

If you will be fishing from a boat. Spool it on any old way and the first time out after respooling, let all the line out and troll. This will take all the twists out.

If in a boat on the river let line out into the current, this has the same affect as trolling.
