I had to register just to post this comment/question. A couple of weeks ago I met fromcuthroattosteelies at the Puyallup and I was astonished at the amount of fish he was able to catch when not a single person anywhere near that stretch could even buy a bite. Because he was catching fish many folks crowded around him for their luck to no avail. But he continued to catch fish. I finally asked him how he did it and he said "let me see your rig." I showed him my simple corky/yarn setup which looked much like his but he gave me a new corkie, sharpened my hook and pulled a bottle out of his pocket of his "secret scent." The recipe he wouldn't reveal after numerous questions. Nevertheless, he casted my rig after he changed my setup and wham! FISH ON. He nonchalantly handed the rod off to me and said "enjoy." Sure enough, the 5 lb. silver inhaled the offering deeper than any salmon I'd seen before. That was the first day we met. We traveled to another river last week with the same results. No one else but him was catching fish. While others were snagging, he had every one right in the chops. NO, they weren't flossed either. Amazing. Do some people simply have a "gift?" Does anybody know this guy? If so, what have you seen?

I have a friend that is like that. He can catch fish when it seems like no fish are around. Some people do have a certain gift I think (minus the mystery scent).

Appreciate it Ray. Unfortunately, the secret juice will have to stay secret for the time being. Are you up for Sunday night?

When you know a river, it's easy to be dialed in and know where/when/how to fish it. I fish the lower river, and have been able to have multiple hookups, even with nets in. Just need to know what you're doing. I've only met one or two true "gifted" fishermen. They could throw a piece of yarn straight on leader with no hook and get yarn wrapped in fishes teeth well enough to land it. LOL.

But seriously, I've only met less then a handful. Some people are naturally dialed in. I wish I was on every river I fish. But the ones I fish religously I have my fair share of luck. I couldn't say there's a "best", but there are some damned good one's on here.

Hey Jerry,
I've never been that clever. However, I'll remember that idea when steelhead season rolls around and everyone has forgotten your comment. There have been many times I've gone home fishless. Too many.......

What's the old saying? The harder I work the luckier I get. A lot of these guys have put in a massive amount getting to where they are.

Yes, there are guys who put in countless fishless hours that you don't hear about. You only hear about the one or two hours when they are catching fish. It is all relative.

Like me, for example, you saw my two silvers that I caught today in 30 minutes, even lost one too. What you will not hear about is the last three weekends when I did not catch anything at all. frown

Well I'am usually the guy that gets this story "Boy you should of been here yesterday " ... Ohh well that's why they call it fishing not catching. I have seen some great anglers in the NW but most of them log the man hours needed to learn a river and catch the fish. If you fish 7 days a week you will have a much better advantage then the weekend Angler. Retirement at 30 sounds pretty good to me would like to catch some fish before the ODFW shuts down all the rivers and I'am resorted to fishing the city turd pond behind the city shops frown

I catch a few fish but I fish alot also.

There really are no secrets, No secret lures, no secret scents, no secret flys.

All there really is is knoledge and luck. But if you dont have much knoledge you wont have much luck, most of the time anyways.

Hey Easy,

I think he is referring to those rednecks north of me in Everett that fish "those ponds" off to the right of I-5 right after the marine view drive exit. I think the rest of us call those ponds the sewage plant. I wonder what they bite on in there?

so do you go around telling everybody that you're fishing with who you are on this board. Maybe I'll try the same thing so I can boost my ego and pretend for a second that i'm the greatest fisherman alive.
But I'd be kidding myself cause I'm not indian and don't own big nets.

in my opinion, id say the best fisherman is..one who takes his trash out, respects others, helps others in need of tackle, suggestions and the like..and releases wild fish ( i know i made a comment that ticked alot of people off bout a guy fishing for kings in the salt and not realeasing them, when he should of) but i was pissed off about the nets in the river..i pick up yards and yards of line from the bank, who are the fishermans worst enemy? the same ones who leave this line to get swept down river jus to get snagged in the river to kill fish and whatever else aquatic..dang that jus pisses me off..
