On the retrieve, something feels like its out of round, or lopsided or something. An uneven drag surface? I don't know, and I haven't yet disassembled it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this and what they did to fix it.

Matt,
One time on my Curado I accidentally pushed the little plastic wieghts out too far (I think two of them) and it created a "surging" type of feeling. Good luck.

You did not happen to oil inside the reel where those little plastic anti-backlash weights are did you? If so that is a big no no Don't ask me how I know that

I usually dunk my curados in the river a couple of times and they work fine. The Nooksack reel bath.

Last year, Santa bestowed a Curado on me for Christmas. I posted the question here about how good a reel it was. I got NO positive feedback, except to say that several people sent theirs back to the company, which promply replaced it. I returned mine and waited until the store had their annual 25% off sale. Then I scooped up the Calcutta. The Calcutta on a Lamiglas is the fishingest rod on the boat 8 outta 10 days.

Diana, Are you sure it was a Curado and not a Corsair they were talking about in that thread? The Shimano Corsair had problems and had a recall, but it's hard to believe there was no positive feedback on the Curado.

I have had 20+ curado's over the lat 5 years and not one of them have given us any trouble.. They are a great reel, I have since switched to the Chronarchs, but still use the curados !!! I have gifted most of them out to family members and they are still going strong!

Sounds like you have one of your counter-balance weights off kilter on the opposite side of the reel handle.
BTW - if anybody is looking for a gently used Curado 201SBF with left-hand retrieve, mine is for sale over in the classifieds. I can't get comfortable with the lefty retrieve.

FS's cast button just seized on his curado and sometimes it wont engage into gear, he has also had to take one back. in my opinion the chronarch is well worth the extra money.

Duh. Sorry about trashing the reel.....it was indeed a Corsair that I was given. Too many names that start with the letter "C".
