It seems majority of the guys or gals on this board prefer the Curado , but take a look at the new series of the Eon Sport and pro and you might change.
I use the Calais but I think the new sport or pro might give it a run for the money. The Calais is light and does have 10 BB but mine has been in the shop twicein one year.

I know guys who have used it and said the Eon was a piece a [Bleeeeep!] , and they are die hard Curado guys. I have played with the Eon and I think it is a better reel then the Curado and the Calais. Any other Eon users or guys in the market for one have any feed backs?

Abu Garcia Eon Pro Baitcast Reel
Abu Garcia tinkered with its popular EON™ baitcast reel to create this exceptionally smooth reel. The EON™ Pro Baitcast reel is designed for serious anglers, with magnesium and graphite construction for lightweight and durable performance with even the lightest of lure. These reels have a hybrid shape - a cross between a round barrel and low-profile shape - to make it comfortable to grip. The planetary gears, a pinion gear surrounded by three orbital gears and a large main gear, gives the reel an innovative cranking system that keeps the handle inline with the spool. This placement allows for oversized, graphite-impregnated Teflon® drag washers with an easy-to-use and oversized ribbed aluminum drag adjustment ring. These reels also have an InfiniSpool® aluminum spool, ergonomically designed cranking handles and an instant anti-reverse for solid hooksets.

I bought an Eon 5601 when they first came out about a year and a half ago because I like trying new fishing gear. I also own a couple Curados. I use the Curados and the Eon stays home except when it's needed for a spare or someone wants to barrow it. It's not that bad of a reel, but I would never buy it over a Curado. The main thing I don't like is the drag. It feels to me the same as the C3 5601, it starts and stops kind of jerky, it's not as smooth as the Curado. Another negative is the thumb release. It feels like it goes through two or three steps to disengage. Same with turning the handle to engage the spool. If you do both functions fast it works o.k., it just takes some getting used to after using Curados. The Curado has a better friction breaking system. To get the casting distance of the Curado you have to adjust the Eon to where you are right at the edge of a having a backlash. One feature the Eon has that I like is the level wind guide disengages when the spool is in free spool. I think this helps with casting distance. Anyway I would take the Curado over the Eon. Maybe the newer Eons are better than the one I have.

I fished a eon for bout 4 trips before that piece of [Bleeeeep!] was boxed back up and returned.
I have a few Curados and they are far the superior reel!!!!cant go wrong with a Curado
Curado= laugh
Eon= mad

i bought an eon 3600 last year when they came out and i really like it, ive had no problems with it. the thumb release is crisp and the drag is smooth on mine. since last fall ive landed a couple dozen silvers and a summer run steelie with it and it still acts like it is fresh out of the box. maybe you guys got a bum reel??

I know the 1st edition Eons had problems and that is why there was a delay in stores last year but the SE Eons and the Sport and Pro seem to be done correctly.

Just like cars void the freshman years, and get the softmore when the bugs been worked out.
Any one use one of the later models?

Another Eon story: I bought the Eon when it first came out. Thought I was hitting the thumb bar for a cast and I hit the guard peice above it. The plastic part flexed and flew off the reel! Took it back the next day and picked up the Curado BSF. Nice reel for the money (The BSF). Don't waste your money on an Eon.
