IF you had a friend who never caught a steelhead before where would you choose to take them and why? You only have one shot at getting a fish.

I have a friend who has never caught one of these beauties and I usually fish the sky. He will be in town for only a day in December and I promised to take him fishing. I am looking for other input from some of the more experienced members.

I am also trying to see why people choose a particular place over another...i.e. scenery/# of fish/qualilty of fish/ lack of fisherpersons/close to home etc.

I am not asking for zipperlip info or secret techniques. If you do not want to share just say I know of a place.... If you are inclined to share anything that you do not want on the main board please e-mail me directly.

This post is for information, fun, and getting to know more about my fellow fishermen.

thanks

I would say Reiter. You already fish this river so you know how it is. It can get crowded but the chance of a hook up are pretty good with float and jigs.

If he prefers a river with a less of a crowd then your better off fishing up river or some where else. I know a lot of people who have never caught a Steeli till they went up to Reiter.

Theres the Snoqualimi and Tokul Creek.
Chance of a hook up are better for some one new but the crowd issue....

Far as zips go, they are not that private but it's quieter then the terminal areas.

I have a few you might already know but if not drop me an email . wink

PS I wasn't sure how far you wanna go.......

Thanks for responding. Seems not too many people like to respond to the type of question... seem to think that everyone has to learn the hard way. I know of a few others but not too many. I mostly fish for salmon because of the weather/kids issue. I would be willing to travel up to 4 hours. Blue creek comes to mind and some places on the Olympic peninsula.

Sure would be nice to have people talk more about fishing instead of politics laugh

Send me an e-mail. Or call me. I am off tomorrow. I will send you my number.

To those who asked why I wasn't at the flotilla6.9, well, two reasons. One is 6 years old and the other is 6 months old. Both caught my cold. frown

I'd book a trip with Robbin Rhoades of the Quinault Guide Service . He'll mostly do walk-in trips in December, that are not nearly as expensive, and will take you to secluded places on the Salmon River or Cook Creek. That's pretty much guaranteed steelhead action!

Even for all the fishing I do, I still do a walk-in trip with Robbin every December. It's usually one of the most fun days of the year for me! Last year, it was a 50 fish day!

Or, hire Bob. He's been known to catch a steelhead or two in December! wink
