i fish the puyallup and carbon mostly with a cork and yarn. the problem is is that i dont catch fish as consistent as i want to and i was wondering what is a good combo of cork and yarn color wise. and what colors would work on the green river. any suggestions would be appreciated.

When the water is murky try taking the yarn off. Remember that the fish will see the yarn coming down river and sometimes people use large amounts of yarn completely covering the corky. I have much better luck just using a single or double #12 corky. Red, Orange, Luminous Peach, and green are good colors. Thats only my opinion and I'm sure everyone has there way of fishing. It works for me. Try FRESH eggs, they never fail. Dont forget, you should always have plenty of scents with you. Mikes Shrimp Oil, Smelly Jelly or an old favorite WD-40!!! Yes it works

Green is a good all around color for silvers as well as peach. Longer leaders will help you with flossing fish thats about it. If you think about your setup flowing down the stream your hook and cork will never be that far above the bottom unless you're in slow current and if you have a 6 foot leader and really want to catch a fish that bites you will have to wait for the weight to travel 12 feet before you notice the fish considering the fish stays put. I know fish will grab the setup and tear out of there like crazy but think of all the fish you missed that just stayed put or spit your gear before it traveled the 12 feet. food for thought

BBVD what could possibly be the advantage of a 5-6' leader?

Rocket Red corky with hot pink/cerise yarn. Smell it up with smelly jelly special mix. Be sure not to let your yarn hang below your hook. The less the better. Don't listen to the guys that tell you to throw a 6 foot leader. Silvers tend to hang out low so stick with a 3 footer. No need to floss on the Puyallup. They'll hit just about anything if it's smelly enough. THINK RED, ORANGE, PINK.......I promise..................

There's nothing wrong with a 4-5 foot leader. It doesn't necessarily equal flossing either. Also, qnly an amature would use a leader that short for flossing fish......... If you really want to be successful at the flossing game, you need to lengthen that leader out to at least 10 feet long ( I prefer to use 12-15 foot leaders for flossing ).

Not true.... Even with a 4 foot leader see how many fish you have hooked outside the mouth. Even when I throw a 3 foot leader I accidentally floss half my fish, especially with corky/yarn. Longer leaders with bait makes it tougher to floss and if that is your point I do agree. Coho hang out deep and you could probably floss them with a 2 foot leader. Just my .02.

I use leaders that are longer (4-6) and would say that 90%++ are hooked inside the mouth. Using a lighter, longer leader give a more natural movment to the bait. May also allow you to get hung up for a second and free your lead without freaking the fish out w/ the unnatural movment. Just my .02.

I also had never heard the term "flossing", but I haven't been on this board in some time. Here is my guess--------the fish runs into your leader with his mouth, and it pulls the hook into the fish. So, the hook is on the outside of the fish's mouth, and the fish never actually bit your presentation. I hear this is how 90% of the "it's in the mouth" fish are caught in the battle zone of Hoodsport. Am I correct??
