I don't normally deviate from a fishing topic on the ol' board here but I just received an e-mail from a friend that I think is worth sharing. It makes one wonder where we are headed as a society. Perhaps some of you have read this but in the event you haven't, here it is:

HOW DID WE SURVIVE?

Looking back, it's hard to believe that we have lived as long as we have:

As children we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

Our baby cribs were painted with bright colored lead based paint.

We often chewed on the crib, ingesting the paint.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors, or cabinets, and when we rode our bikes we had
no helmets.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out
we forgot the brakes.

After running into the bushes a few
times we learned to solve the problem.

We would leave home in the morning and
play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.

We played dodgeball and sometimes the ball would really hurt.

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank sugar soda, but we were never over weight; we were
always outside playing.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.

Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

Some students weren't as smart as
others so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade.

That generation produced some of the greatest risk-takers and problem
solvers.

We had the freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

THINK ABOUT IT!!!

Nice post Eric. The world is full of a bunch of pansy a$$es huh? Plus you would get hit by the belt for doing something wrong without thinking of calling for child abuse. Nation of fairies....... I want to go fishing, that is all this has made me think of......

i dont think that is what Eric was getting at, maybe you should read it again...

the pollution in our rivers has been going on for as long as this nation has been industrialized and im afraid it will continue as long as the population increases. you cant blame this just on one generation or the next.

Love Canal was destroyed by a group of individuals and temporarily covered up by a group of individuals, not a generation as a whole.

his post said nothing about a generation that was good at "saving their nickels"...that is up to you and me as individuals, it is a personal responsibility. im not happy with SS either, i would rather have the option to go it alone and not have to take that deduction on my paycheck and be responsible for myself but that is not the case so we all have to deal with it the way it is.

every generation will have its bad apples, but there will always be a lot of good people too.

besides, i remember riding in the back of a pickup and not having to worry about getting a ticket for no seatbelt while having fun on a hot summer afternoon. or going home from school and trying to explain the black and blue marks from playing dodgeball to my parents (i was young and healed up quick, no need for a lawsuit)

good post Eric, it brought back a lot of memories, thanks
