Can anyone recommend a brand of Lure paint and where to buy it around the Seattle area? I'm looking for the Cerise color to paint my wiggle warts. Seems like a spray paint would work best, but can't find any.
Thanks.

I am not sure about plastic baits, but the folks in Canada at Lure Making have wonderful powder paints that I used on my salmon spoons. Might be worth a try... or email them with questions

I use Fishermun's lure-coat, it's a good product, fast drying with lot's of differant colors to choose from. You can pick it up at most good tackle shops. Buy an all silver or gold plug of your choice and dip away. Never hurts to use a little glitter on them too wink

I've used Fishermun's Lure-Coat also, got it at Outdoor Emporium. Be sure to put a white base coat on or you won't get true colors. But have not seen any spray on. Wonder about hobby shops. Don't know how durable some of that paint might be.

The most popular model airplane paints are catalyzed enamel. These babies are impervious to half burned nitro methane and most types of nuclear fallout. This includes primer and every color known to man. Get yourself a nice airbrush and rock and roll. I have a lot of fun with it and some of the plugs even catch fish. I wish the lure manufacturers would sell flat white primed versions of their products. Anybody know anything about that?

Thanks, I'll see if I can find the fishermans' lure coat in the cerise color. The model airplane paint sounds like worth looking into as well. Where can a person find an airbursh?

Airbrush can be purchased at Seattle Art Supply or any arts and crafts store.

I asked the same question for dink float paint..I had a few responses about tool handle dip but havent been able to find it in neon orange yet.. The lure coat stuff cracks and flacks off easy so not a good idea... Maybe a paint shop would have some ideas on lure paint that is durable..TM

Lead Thrower,
Yeah, plugs, spoons, dodgers, automobiles, whatever. It works best if you use the primer first. The primer is opaque white and will even fill small dings or dents. You can sand it to five thousand grit if you so desire but that is a real pain on small lures and I have not found this necessary. The type I use is called Super Poxy because it comes in four ounce cans. You can find similar products at auto paint stores but the quantities you are forced to buy make it too expensive. This is a two part paint so mixing is required. I use an animal syringe, which can be bought, at any feed store. It doesn’t take much to paint a wiggle wart. Also, be advised that the fumes destroy brain cells by the hand full so a good respirator is an absolute must. If you can smell it then you are being damaged.

I get cheap cans of spray paint in "safety" florescent colors at the local industrial supply store - they wear off after a while but are easy to apply again. I even carry a couple cans in different colors around in the boat - if I see everyone else catching them on a particular color I can fix myself up on the spot laugh

One thing I haven't found is a good source for luminous "glow in the dark" spray paints - sure would like to touch up some of my old chewed up Coyotes, and would also like to "luminize" some of my flashers for real deep work. Any sources? confused

I have a source for ya, but it doesnt come in a spray, only a brush on... the website is http://www.glowmates.com

The glow in the dark pigment used in the product is a new type of luminous pigment, and glows for up to 12 hours.

The spoons this guy sells caught me some of the biggest salmon I have ever caught out of Lake Michigan..

If you do get some, be sure to put a good white primer coat on them first.

I really like the Fishermuns Lure coat from Dick Nite. I have been painting my own spoons with great success. I bought an airbrush at the Everett Tool town for $20-$30. Cant remember the price. Never have used it. With a small brush you can put the paint on thick enough while it is hanging for it to dry smooth. I also put a clear coat over it and it really dries smooth. The shine stays on the glow colors when this is done a little better. The white base undercoat really does bring out the color. These are just laquer paints. You can tin it down with laquer thinnier. for stripes I mask off with blue amsking tape. When done the clear coat over the top of everything flattens it back out. Good Luck!
