Cool, I was thinking about heading out there this weekend with my float tube to give it a whirl.

i was down there this morning just after low tide. i didnt realize how far out the tide goes, i had only been there at high tide before. i was surprised how many people show up during the week, but it's still not as bad as the weekend crowd.

Great place to take the kids, they can get dirty, and catch fish too! My son loves it, and catches as much as i do! Damn bigginers luck! Wish i could see more kids out there, they could use the distraction from everyday life as we do.

Kennedy Creek runs into Oyster Bay at the upper end of Totten Inlet. Highway 101 crosses the mouth of the creek about half way between Olympia and Shelton.

Thanks guys. Great info. I understand the problem of having to land the fish without a net. Last weekend my wife landed a 15lbs Buck and the head wouldn't even fit in the net. Needless to say I had WWF in the Hood Canal with this thing. Great stories and yes I need a smoker now too and I have a net that would fit an 80lbs fish now.

Are the Kennedy Creek guys throwing corkies with yarn, like at Hoodsport? The weather is looking decent for Sunday -- do you think it will be a total zoo then? I'd like to spend the day fighting fish, not other fishermen. Regards. Finegrain Woodinville

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

It's a zoo every weekend. But, most of the crowd is easy to get along with so you can have an enjoyable time even in close quarters. Most guys are fishing yearn and corky, and a few guys will be flyfishing.
BB,
You go past Mud Bay (Eld Inlet) and continue on Hwy. 101 north toward Shelton. It's a few miles past Steamboat Island, and just past the Thurston/Mason county line. You won't miss it......the cars will be lined up like Tacoma Mall on the weekends.

No need for a float tube except maybe for an hour or two at high tide - most of the day the place is knee deep (in water anyway, add a little more freeboard for the mud ) It is not a boat show at all. It is also not a real big area and crowded in the few areas you can get to at really high tides, but once the tide starts to go out people can line both banks for a half mile and spread out pretty well - the best spots will still be elbow-rubbers though.
One thing about this place is that people seem to be real nice, everybody fishes legally and releases snagged fish. And it is really great for kids at lower tides - if the tides up keep them in a life jacket - those nasty dogs will pull you right in
