What kind of boat do your have? That will usually make a big difference when pulling plugs.

FK2, there are all kinds of verables,

1. what kind of boat do you have and is the bottom in good shape?

2. what kind of oars do you have?

3. are your seats adjustable..ie pasanger seat and rowers seat? You my have to play around with the balance of the boat. Even where you have all your gear to. (front to back)

It takes a few trips down the river to figure out how to pull plugs, just take notes as to were other guys are set up in a particular hole and next time you come down set up like they were. Set up is the most important part, 10 feet in either directoin when pulling plugs and you might have to work your butt off to keep the boat in the sweet spot!
Hope this helps. smile

How many guys and how much gear and beer in the boat will also make a difference on how well the boat slides too.

But seriously, if you are new to a driftboat and all things are equal, such as your boat, load and weight distribution, you will naturally tend to overrow anyway. Time and experience will significantly improve efficiency. There are of course some tricks to conserving energy and knowing your boat well enough to save some strokes but these produce relatively minor changes. The boat and how it rides makes the biggest difference and there is little you can do about that.

You have to make sure you dont dip your oars too deep. Dipping deep creates drag and actually helps pull the boat down the river faster. Just fan the surface real shallow and your world will be a much better place and your arms wont get near as tired.
