I've always wished that someone would make a three way interlocking swivel. To me, that would be IDEAL for drift fishing.

Normal swivels do not swivel at the interlocking end once a piece of lead is attached. The weight of the lead keeps the loop of the swivel in place. Ever put on a shrimp taila and have it spin on you during a drift? Pull your line in only to find it all wound up at the leader? I have. It sucks and I hate it!

Ever see some drift fish and turn their swivels upside down and fish them "Alaskan style"? They do this so the top end of swivel is now at the bottom, allow the leader to freely rotate. Fine and all, but I just don't trust the interlocking bit rubbing constantly against my main line!

Well, I've come up with a three way interlocking swivel. All I have to do now is convince Vision (or someone else) to manufacturer it. Personally, I think these would outsell conventional swivels in the PNW. Why would you use a swivel when you could use this:

(This is a product of Parker's Imagination and Photoshop. Even though it looks real, this doesn't exist yet!)

Whaddya think? Main line is free to swivel. Leader is free to swivel, and you have a nice interlocking bit for your lead. Am I smoking crack again, or is this a good idea?

The only problem I could forsee is there's a good binding point due to the relatively long length where the interlocking bit connects to the swivel. Think that is any more likely to get hung up in a rock?

One could always take an existing three way swivel and attach a plug connector to it. That's essentially what this is. I've tried that, although out of the box, 3-way swivels on the market today are too long. You'd really have to cut back the length of the loop connector for the interlocking bit for this to work.

Dunno. I'd love to get a sample 1000 pack or so and try them out. Who knows? They could suck, do nothing, or be the next "best thing" when it comes to fishing gear.

That would suit me PERFECTLY!

One possible variation. Don't make the snap a safety snap (no 90 degree bend to keep it from unhooking) It would be easier to poke through a piece of surgical tubing without it. what

Parker,
Great idea!
4salt beat me to the constructive criticism...
I was struggling with the twisted leader from a shrimp tail just this weekend.
No need for interlock if you're using pencil lead or even slinkies.
Product development.....Just the thing to keep a new dad busy! rolleyes

Mas guys already use that setup. They just take a bass snap and attach it to the 3-way. Nonetheless a commercially made version would save the hassle of putting the components together. It'll prob go over well.

Parker,

I put up a picture of just that kind of swivel (with a slinkie attached to it)a year or so a go and got nothing but a bunch of negatives and everybody thought I was a nutzo.

To my memory, you even told me that I would need to order around 10,000 or maybe 100,000 of them. I thought you were even thinking it was a bad idea. But, I think I had a snap attached to the dropper one.

Guess I need to do a search, but maybe later.

I do remember Scotty thought it was junk too!!

I am very interested in them and, yes, it was my idea, but you can take the glory. wink

Parker send me that Pic in an e-mail and I will send it to our factory and see what they say.
Besides I am the one who had them make a size 3 hook for all the side drifters and boondoggers.
Peace Superfly

P.S. You can all call me the man for that one Too!!!!! hello hello hello

Love it, I too would use that type of a set-up often.....but of course not exclusively.
BTW....why is Sportco always out of the Vision products?
Later,

Why is it Sportco is always out of everything? Honestly, how could you run out of borax during the fall salmon run? Does it go bad if they buy too much and it doesn't sell? Is it so expensive that they can't afford to carry some product throughout the year? How is it possible to run out of corkies and lead core for the entire winter steelhead season? In May and June they are always out of lead head jigs and large scampis.
It seems like whatever the season at hand, you can count on Sportco not having what you need.
I used to manage the hunting depatmant for a large sporting goods store while I was going to college. It is painfull for me to see exactly what Sportco could be- unbelievable!
Sorry for the rant, just my .02
Thanks
I think Sportco is overrated

Let's keep the conversation focused on this swivel, and not turn it in to a company or store bashing session. slap

Personally, I don't care what company makes it. I just want to see one made.

I like the idea of the non-interlocking 3-way swivel.

Let's see what Uncle Joe and Vision can come up with!

If there are any swivel/tackle competitors out there, please fee free and take a crack at this swivel. I'd like to see someone get it out on the market.

There was a company that was making those w/ a regular snap swivel. I bought them at sportco and used them for a season. Have not been able to find them since. I forget the name of the co. but remember the package. I belive the name started w/ a D. White package and they mainly sold swivels/silders ect. Lower end products. They worked great in some conditions.

Its in the works, I have spoken with my people, Now let me know what sizes you would like, I will probably only be able to do two to start with because of cash flow, I was thinking of 10's and 7's.
Also Sportco orders lots of stuff from me twice a month so I do not know why they are running out all the time.
Peace Superfly slap

Yes, #10' and #7's would probably be a good start.

Are these going to be interlocking or non-interlocking?

I stand corrected. It was DJ that told me to order a million of them. mad

I like the setup you have designed much better than the one I put up on the board last year. But, I wanted the royalties. laugh

500#10's will work for a starter. Any kind of a snap will work for me. what

Then I'll put all my snap swivels up for sale on the classifieds page. :p
