I fished Hood Canal yesterday and today. They netted yesterday (Wednesday) and will again tomorrow (Friday). Yesterdays netting of the Zone and whole Canal wiped out a lot of fish. There were hardly any chums at the Hatchery this morning. After they net again Friday, this weekend could be a bust. I think the run of fish at the Zone is winding down now.

i was there myself this morning and it seemed like there were a ton of fish...mind you it was only my third time there and my first at anything less than high tide...my fishing was at an all time low, all those fish around, one bite, i couldn't even snag one if i tried( and i am ashamed to admit i did try a few times and still couldn't hook one)...what the hell was my problem??my river drift gear surely wasn't the ticket..4 ft. leaders, corky, no corky, no retrieve, slow retrieve, fast retrieve(maybe i can hook one on the way in)...i just plain sucked today!! i will not let that place get the best of me...the place with the least amount of skill required to hook fish and i couldn't...i'll be back(with shorter leaders and smaller corkies)...beware of the thoudands of dead fish..sucks to drag 'em in & unhook 'em and walking all over them also is a pain in the arse...almost fell in today...NASTY!!

Don't feel bad. I had a really bad day too. Seems like everyone else was not doin' so good either. Even the snaggers were having an off day. sleep

I fished the Canal yesterday but avoided the zone. Caught a couple elsewhere on flies. but what was interesting was a three fishermen using bobbers and herring c atching a lot of fish compared to the rest of the folks I saw. While the fish I saw caught weren't bright, they were in pretty good shape for southern Canal chum.

I'm hoping there are more fish headed that way. The fish I caught were pretty sad-- couldn't get the ones in better shape to bite. Last week I got into some fish in good condition in the mid-Canal region, and the one I kept was in excellent condition. Let's hope all the 800,000 predicted for the Canal haven't shown up yet.

There are hundreds of gutted and gaffed fish that make walking around there a gruesome experience. The place looks like a huge killing zone, and reeling in a dead chum with no entrails is a unigue fishing experience.

Any updates today? Is it worth visiting tomorrow? A friend wants me to take him and his son fishing and I'm looking for a "can't miss" opportunity.

I went over there today. They netted the Zone today so tomorrows fish population might be a little thin. Sunday, the Zone should be good.

For an alternate, try the shoreline south of Potlatch SP. There were chums in there today and it will only get better. Expect a crowd too. If you have a boat take it.

There's a huge number of freshly arriving schools of chum all the way up the canal to Jorstad Creek. Easy too spot right on the surface....if the weather would cooperate for more than a day.

Goose, I was up in your "hood" today. I even stopped at Dose State Park. I did not see any fish there or along the shoreline. Could it be because of all the nets?
