At the risk of saturating the board with NFR topics...

I've got the germ of an idea for parodying some rock/Metal songs with a fishing theme. I can't really take the idea to the rest of my band because I am sure I would get the 'Huh?' reaction...

Woodsy Wayne and I had kicked around the idea of Jamtilla or some such thing...I have a knack for writing lyrical parodies and can play just about any rock song on the drums given a chance to learn it.

So...anyone up for getting together and learning some rock/Metal standards? Not necessarily even genre specific...we could cover any song that lent itself to a funny parody...

To answer the obvious 'why' question...well, how about for funsies and with the idea in mind to have some live music at one of these floatilla thingies...

Even if you aren't interested in my idea lets have role call of who plays what, experience level and preferred type of music...

Edit: I play drums and guitar, sing a little if there are enough effects to cover my hideous Brian Johnson impersonation...

Hey-

I have been reluctant to breach this subject (ie music) because this is a fishing board...but I am glad you asked. I play guitar...pretty well I think, better than some, yet worse than some too. Only thing is that I am pretty much stuck on playing blues. Let me know if anyone is interested in a blues guitarist.

The parody sounds fun, of course blues parodies are always easy and fun, usually well received too. let me know if anything comes of it.

Josh

A 1 an' a 2 . . .

A Canadian friend of mine used to cut loose with the first couple bars of a parody of "These are a few of my favorite things", thank you Julie Andrews, or Rogers and Hammerstien actually, I suppose.

But if you compose lyrics, see where this takes you:

Steelhead on spade flies and long tapered leaders, somethin, somethin about wing shots, grouse, and more leaders. These are a few of my favorite things.

I never could remember it. It ain't rock and roll, but you might have some fun with it.

Rock on, maestro.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

How about this Salmo -

"Steelhead on spey flies with long tapered leaders.

Hammered brass ovals and bright colored cheaters.

Emerald green rivers and time off in spring

These are a few of my favorite things..."

Oh oh! Fishing-themed SHOWTUNES! laugh laugh

Bagpipes might not work, but if I can borrow my bass guitar back from my college daughter I might be able to keep up - did bar rock music professionally in the 70's. And BTO's "Takin' care of business" is about fishing, right? flog

Heh. laugh Well.. with a bunch of practice and a bunch of you showing me how to play again I may be able to hold a rythm. I still have the Mesa and the cheap version of the Gibson. I havent touched it in about 6 months. I may still be able to find a pick in my apt somewhere.
