We put in at Lewis Street today, and there is a sign there saying that there is a log jam 1/4 mile downstream. Anyone know what the deal is with this? We didn't want to run down through the riffle to find out, fearing that we might end up with no place to go.

We went upriver, and the river is pretty skinny right above the bridge. I can't believe how fast the water is dropping. It was perfect today, 4800 cfs, but may be too low to run tomorrow if it keeps dropping at the current rate. It dropped 5000 cfs since yesterday!!! May have to, horror of horrors, use the drift boat.

The chums are in, but weren't particularly thick. Lots of lice on the ones we caught, so they appear to be coming in rapidly. We got about 6 each in half a day. Saw lots of boot silvers. Talked to one guy who said he had a winter steelhead.

So, don't nobody be saying that Silver don't share the goods. We'll be out there tomorrow. Say hi to the blue NR sled with the aussie/lab mix dog.

I saw the same sign as I passed by on the way to the pheasant release site.

The first left hand turn in the river after Lewis Street has had a stump in the middle of the river for years. A few months ago a canoe accident happened in that spot and a child drowned. Do not know if any other lives have been lost there but it is a deceiving spot. The guy who showed me how to row the river walks his boat around this spot; this is the only spot I have seen him do this on. The way the current runs it wants to take you right directly into the stump which is directly in the middle of the slot.

After the person drowned someone tried to yank the stump/tree out of the river. They got it about half way out and the cable broke making the jam even worse. I have not been down there in about two months but I wonder if it has piled up even worse, or if the signs were posted because of the drowning. I am not sure why the signs are there but this would be my best guess.

I found out today that the log jam is gone, floated out after the recent flood.

The log jam that claimed a young boys life this year is gone. It was a half mile down from the Lewis river bridge next to the outlet of Haskell
slough. It was on the first corner below the bridge and at low flows the river would funnel right to it. Unfortunately you couldn't see it until you rounded the corner.
