Does anyone have experience w/ rain gear made by Frogg Toggs?

I want to upgrade the Gore Tex I currently own...I've just spent too much time in it cold & wet!

Sorry to report that my expirence with them was awful. THye are light weigh and they are waterproof but . . . they tear really easily. After about five trips they were trash and that's where I put them.

If you were only wearing them in a boat they might suit your purpose. But they are not for bucking brush.

No experience with the Frogg toggs but I would recommend the Grundens or the Mustang suit for cold weather, for boat.

I agree with the Mustang suit for extreme exposures in the boat. They provide more flotation while keeping you warm and dry. I have used them the only problem I have had is trying to get to hot. They won't allow you much work in them without getting warm and they don't breath real well. If you are upgrading your GorTex, look at the gear from ArcTeyrx. My wife and I both own the stuff and we think it is the best breathable rain gear out there. It is made to move in and the 3 layer fabric is reinforced on the wear points. It is expensive but comparable to North Face or Marmot or other high end manufacturers. I am using my Simms waders and a ArcTeryx jacket right now. I am planning on buying pants. To be honest I think the goog rubberized stuff from Helly Hanson is good too. It just doesn't breath as well. Good Luck umbrella

I purchased the cabalas gore tex jacket. It has neoprene sleeves that keep the water out. It breathes real good since I'm on the sticks alot. It was a little pricey for my budget but I sure love it. beer

I love my Frogg Toggs. I wear the jacket tucket into my weaders. I have done some brush busting but black berry bushes will shred just about anything. I also have commercial rain gear and I love that on the boat but it doesn't breath at all, the Toggs breath, so I don't feel as clammy after a day of fishing and walking. If I am doing very heavy brush busting I wear my Filson Tin coat. Heavy and stiff yes, but, it laughs at thorns and barb wire.

Grant, some of my customers have wore these on trips. Unless they make different grades of Frogg Toggs, they would not be a upgrade from Gore tex.......One advantage is they won't be too warm in the summer......have you tried Columbia Omnitech?........ just my 2 cents...............hey how you been?.... keepin busy enough?

I swear by my Frogg Toggs. Obviously, they won't be the best thing to where for every situation, but they definitely have their purpose. They make a perfect rain coat for bank anglers. It's light and rolls up small enough to carry in the back of your vest without adding any weight or discomfort from bulkiness. They're also completely waterproof and their great at blocking wind. I've had mine for over 2 years and they're still in great shape.

Save your money and get something other than Frogg Toggs. Picked up a pair at the sportsman show last Jan. Wore them for the first time on a trip to Neah Bay and boy did it rain out there. They were completely waterproof but the first time I went to pull the snap on the pants pocket, the damn things ripped at the seam on the pocket. mad The other downer is that they fuzz up and catch everything especially hooks beathead

I can't remember what Columbia uses in their omnitech clothing, but it's good stuff. All my duck hunting stuff is Columbia and it works real well. TH...everything that Columbia makes that's not the cheap rubber stuff is omnitech. I think it's their version of Gore-Tex.

OMK,

I would have to agree with the others on the use of Columbia Omnitech/Titanium wear.
I have not used the Frogg Togg's, but have used the Columbia brand for everything from hunting and hiking to fishing. Haven't found anything better yet.

Good Luck!
Matt

Don't forget LL Bean. I was given an expensive Gor Tex wading jacket and love it. No rain gear needed on the river now. But, at the price, I probably would have never bought it myself.

I got Toggs--the are great. fit in the stuff sack very lightweight, they dry out fast. Great in the boat, hiking and golf course. I did have a pair of the pants rip near the pocket - I sent them in had a new pair 3 days later. So, not sure of why some guys are swearing them off--cant get better customer service than that.

I bought a Frog Togg jacket last winter and it's been great. Lightweight and breathable, they are great for the fishing situations I've encountered. However, they do seem a bit thin so I have not taken them thru the brush. I suspect they would not last long if I did.

Over the years I've been disappointed in Gore Tex. Despite the claims, when it rains hard, I get very wet wearing Gore Tex. I thought about trying Columbia's Omintech but bought Frog Toggs instead. So far, they've been very good.

I love them. Great for the boat, windproof and waterproof. I tend to dress lighter when I wear them 'cause they are so warm. You just have to watch out for blackberries when bank fishing.

Check on E-Bay for Columbia Omni-Tech Gear. There is always a lot of it in the Hunting Apparel area. Also if you get into Portland, there are 2 Coulumbia Sportswear Outlet Stores, that often have a good selection of Omni-Tech. smile

I vote for Cabela's Guidewear. I've had mine for 5 years, use it from here to Alaska, and it's tough and dry. A bit spendy, but it lasts.
