Since the targets are going too slow with hardly any arch and you're shouldering the gun before the shot... all you have to do is line up the sight- you rifleshoot the target. I wish those real bird would cooperate fly like that! Real bird hunting is instinctive and real bird shooters should be trained on a sporting clays course, not a trap range. Personally, I don't walk around with my gun shouldered when I hunt. So, it shouldn't be done in practice, either. Sporting clays as more to offer for teaching safe gun handling as you half to walk from station to station.. All you have to know with trap is to keep that gun pointed down course. When I want to feel warm and fuzzy about my shooting, I go shoot trap. When I want to actually accomplish something and try to refine my skills.... Sporting clays! ![fight fight](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/fight.gif)

CWUgirl I think your comparison of trap shooting to rifle shooting is absurd. Having shot more than my share of trap and spent many hours at the bench, try as I may, I fail to see any similarity between the two. How does a moving shotgun barrel compare to that of a sandbagged rifle at the bench? As far as sporting clays go, yes, some of the angles presented more closely simulate what you encounter in the field. However, these courses are not widely available and the cost for a round can be prohibitive. If shooting trap from further distances is still too easy for you, I have another suggestion. Try scaling your loads back a bit. I recommend one ounce of 7 1/2's in front of 23 grains of Winchester 452AA. Still too easy? Try a 7/8 ounce load. I believe you will find this more difficult than "bringing death down" on the wildest flushing rooster with an ounce and a quarter of number fours. In fact, I think killing pheasants is "easy". ![shoot shoot](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/shoot.gif)

In fact, I think killing pheasants is "easy". ![evil evil](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/evil.gif) I just have to say, pheasants aren't the most difficult, but at least I'm not sitting on my behind all day in a cold damp blind chewing on ding dongs waiting for action to come to me! I guess I like the challenge of having to hunt for my birds. And pheasant is just one of the birds I hunt. For the four days I get out every week, I hunt hard and try my best to shoot well. I guess I just hate to see people trying to learn how to shoot live game going to trap ranges and really doing nothing for their skills... Heck, skeet would be an improvement on trap. Since you fail to see the similarity between rifle shooting and trap...I'll lay it out for ya! Rifle shooting- you look down the barrel carefully, one eye closed and AIM.... With trap shooting it's exactly the same ting. Shotgunners should POINT... That is, you instinctive get that gun to your shoulder, point the barrel, swing through and hope for the best.. You can't learn that in trap. Trap is a GAME.. It has nothing to do with reality of shotgun shooting. And if you need #4's for pheasant, you've got problems! Dog running out a little on ya or what? Or maybe you need that third shot when they're 45 yards out.... The biggest shot I ever shoot on upland birds is Fiocci Golden Pheasant #5's.. Good shot, but #6's usually are better for throwing down the death. Anyhoo.... ![wink wink](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/wink.gif)

Swing thru and hope for the best????? Sheesh any of you really know how to shoot a shotgun at live birds that present a challenge? Factory Pheasants? No Challenge. Try shooting Green wing teal sometime! Thats a challenge! And I'm willing to prove it any weekend....just bring lots of ammo...your own! <img border="0" alt="[wall]" title="" src="graemlins/wall.gif" />

And you think I don't hunt ducks?? I just prefer a challenge is all. Can't stand sitting on my butt that long and refuse to eat all those processed sugary foods that duck hunters seem to find necessary in order to enjoy their time freezing in a blind. Must be because those birds taste so horrible.. need to be jonesing for sugar, in your dillerium, you think they actually taste good. Factory pheasants? I don't participate in canned hunts. Wild birds... Pheasant, quail, huns, chukar, grouse, few doves... as well as sky pigs and ducks on occassion... I know it's hard to understand for the average duck hunter, but I enjoy the hiking for those upland birds! :p

CWUgirl, Just a thought, if you are have having problems breaking more than 22 targets you should open both eyes and follow through after you shoot and most of all "DO NOT AIM" point ,click and Now regarding shot size while "bringing down death". I believe number fours are best. They offer longer range with cleaner kills and less chance of lost game. It's really all I ever shoot on pheasants any time during the season. I don't believe this is too much because, after all, dead is dead. If a bird gets up close, hesitate till the pattern opens a bit then "bring the death". Also, any far flushing ringers are in serious trouble with fours. With this load I have range and efficiency. Be careful with sixes, I hate lost birds. I enjoy Pheasant hunting very much, as I have a well behaved dog that I have spent alot of time training and running in competive hunting tests. I get more enjoyment out of watching a good dog work and the bird flushing than :bringing down death". Goose is right about Teal fast moving target! If you want a real change of pace try Sea Duck hunting! It does not matter what type of shot gun shooting you do at the end of the day it all helps with what ever you want to hunt or what ever type of targets you want to break!!!! ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/smile.gif)

CWUgirly If you're shooting trap with one eye closed maybe you belong in the woods on opening day of deer season with rifle in hand. That is absolutely the wrong technique. That is, of course, if you're not trying to shoot right handed when, in fact, you are left eye dominant or vice versa. I think your time at CWU has given you a quick wit and proficiency with the keyboard, but you seem to lack much experience at the range be it rifle or trap. If you ever open up to idea of shooting more trap and taking part in some of the different money shoots and long range games it could very well help you in the field. ![beathead beathead](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/beathead.gif) You can go on about chukars and quail and hunting difficult areas for upland game, but it doesn't compare to laboring across the mud in the dark to get to your spot before the tide begins to come in. Have a nice day ![beer beer](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/beer.gif)

Have a nice day I can see you're running scared, so I won't frighten you too much with my superior skill and authorita in the field. After all, I am girl- a girly girl, apparently. ![beer beer](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/beer.gif) Hurtin the ego to back down?? Plus, you seem to be little low on your daily intake of Duck hunter special ding dongs. Trap is a GAME....It has little to no practical use for real hunters. I prefer shooting targets that might actually improve my skills. But then again, many people like to just FEEL good instead to BE good at shooting. I don't believe you've ever been seriously chukar hunting. Side hilling shale covered hills is a little more difficult than a little mud. Duck hunters and upland hunters...will they ever just get along?? Duck hunters tire to easily, can't keep up with the real deal! Anyway.. I posted this morning, but I seem to have not sent it.. Do you actually run hunt tests?? You know, the ones were a JH means nothing and a MH is just a QAA copy cat? LOL.. just kidding with you... I have a FC-AFC Sun Valley Nugget x FC-AFC Super Boomer *****, son.. Might see you out there next spring. Too bad hunt tests are non-competitive, if they were I could have my dog beat you as well.. but I'll settle for me just having the authorita. Cheers! ![evil evil](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/evil.gif)

CWUgirl, Maybe duck hunting is too blue collar and lacks enough "ambiance" for you. I think you and your taste for fine shotguns should stick to upland birding. :p Oh, and the wide variety of ducks found in the marsh, including the incredibly fast Teal, provide much more shooting challenge than the monotony of "bringing death" to pheasants which always seem to present that going away shot found in trap shooting that is so "easy". Well I guess I better get back to eating ding dongs, Ho Ho's and all that proccesed pepperoni to keep the Duck Hunting figure going, because there is no point going Pheasant hunting anymore since you have brought death to all three Pheasants in Ellensberg!!! :p ![beer beer](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/beer.gif) :p

AUTHORITA IS MINE! There are pheasants in eburg?? Well, other than the ones kept in pens at the preserves, I don't think there is much of a pop. Lots of quail in this town have met their demise by my 20 gauge, however. Please play fair next time. No calling Sparkey to indulge him on the merrits of trap.. cheating.. typical duck hunter! :p You better stop egging me on... Sparkey might think you've got eyes for me! ![eek eek](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/eek.gif) :p

What a rediculous argument. Looking down on someone for their choices of what to shoot when and in what costume is silly.
