Tom Delay is not running and says he will resign his seat in Congress. Not many sorry to see him go. He still has some supporters though. One of them is Minnesota Mike:

Never in the history of this nation has a political movement been more successful. Since Tom Delay has made the conservative movement an everyday reality of American culture, our country has never been stronger.

Economically we have made huge improvements over all other countries during the conservative movement. Whereas before America was struggling on every front, now we easily have the strongest economy every measured by man. Any supposed facts that would claim to discount this claim must be lies. The dollar has never been stronger because Tom Delay and the conservative movement says it has never been stronger. The budget has never been in better shape because they say it. Unemployment has never been smaller and people have never been richer because they say it. What Tom Delay and the conservative movement claim as economic truth must be believed beyond a doubt. Those who do not believe deserve the squalor and the utter poverty they shall receive.

Socially this country has never been stronger thanks to the conservative movement. We now all have the Freedom of choice - the choice to believe all the brilliant talking points or not to believe them and suffer with the indignant. Those who do believe can and must be accepted on every social level. Those who don't deserve every vile label thrown at them and must be considered an enemy of Freedom at best and a terrorist at worst.

Spiritually our nation has never been stronger under the conservative movement. Those who believe in God and share the faith and the wisdom of our morally superior leaders shall benefit the most. Those who turn their back on God or turn their back on their leaders shall suffer in sin eternally. The choice is clear - Faith in God and Faith in our morally superior leaders will keep us as ethical as Tom Delay and all the members of the conservative movement.

Unless we all adopt the brilliant and morally superior ideology of Tom Delay, then the terrorists will have already won.

DeLay brought it upon himself. Natural and logical consequences. It couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. I just wish it would happen to a few more deserving guys.

Some people believe the consequences will be Delay in jail. I find that hard to believe. But here's the first few paragraphs of a knight ridder article which implies it's working in that direction:

The former House majority leader announced his resignation three days after court documents revealed that federal investigators have uncovered evidence of corruption in his leadership office. Tony Rudy, former deputy chief of staff to the powerful Republican congressman from Texas, admitted in a plea agreement that he sold his influence to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff while he was working for DeLay.

Rudy became the second former DeLay aide who's agreed to cooperate with federal investigators in return for a more lenient sentence.

"Any rational person in his (DeLay's) position would be very concerned," said Kendall Coffey, a former federal prosecutor who's now a prominent defense lawyer in Miami. "Whether it's working up the ladder at Enron or a drug organization, it's classic strategy to work up by getting plea agreements and cooperation at each level........."
