This isn't new. As the radioman on our on-shore spotting team in Viet Nam, I went thru a similar training session back in '66. My uncle went thru similar training in WW2 as a corpsman attached to the Marines. It didn't keep him from getting killed on Palau though.

34 year old nurse ? Training her to belly crawl with a rifle is beyond ridiculous, if she gets into a battle she is either going to call in support or die.......are we really that out of touch to think 34 year old women (nurses no less) can go over seas and go in a kill 10-20 year old gangsters who are literally fighting for their life !
Turn off the TV and smell the coffee America !

There are things 34 year old nurses can do better than engage in combat, and we need them desperatly in those roles, why pretend they are something they are not ?

Right...
Believe me, I have nothing against 34 year old nurses, fact is I kinda like the image that brings to mind, but not if they think, or are instructed to think, they are RAMBO !
Remember, war is not a game, and it is not pretend either, being a nurse in a war zone has got to be plenty hard enough without trying to act like a man to boot.

Might think about training the battlefield commanders to keep the girls out of the way so business can be taken care of proper...

Example:
Where are all the 34 year old girls in the NFL ?
Where are all the 34 year old girls in the NHL ?
I think players in professional sports are hired based solely upon their ability to get the job done, and girls don't make it to the top leagues.......
Girls are wonderfull, and bright and all that, but they are not men, thank God !

Getting people killed by putting girls on the frontlines of cobat would be shamefull, just like putting her in a professional rugby match would be cruel and shamefull....

It's simply a matter of teaching them what to do and how to act in the scenario that for some reason, our lines are over-run, their convoy is ambushed, or some other SHTF type action occurs.
It's also a good sign of how bad The Bush Administration has screwed up everything they touch....I mean really, when they are pulling NURSES out of the friggin NAVY to act as ARMY GRUNTS...

That's what white flags are for...<kidding>
It is really a feel good thing, and a CYA thing so AuntyM can't get too mad at her polititions when those equal young girls are killed absolutely dead after being gang raped and tortured for a while....
A waste of taxpayer money, a waste of time, and a shamefull waste of life.

I couldn't help but notice all the sports analogies when trying to accept the concept of women in the military. Perhaps it's best that some people don't serve their country; this ain't no game.
I'll never understand why some people have such disdain for those in uniform, male or female. The lady in the article is a nurse--aren't they an asset on the battlefield? Do you think I'll care when I have a sucking chest wound whether the medic that just low crawled to me is a man or woman? And if someone thinks women can't handle those responsibilities, they have no idea. Perhaps they need to go find out first hand what being in that environment is really all about.
It's not a matter of gender, it's a matter of being skilled in their assignment.

Okay, if you can't get the point of the sports analogies, maybe you can understand why you don't see women in key positions on commercial fishing boats, logging, construction, etc.......
Sure women have a token presence in some places to pacify the belligerant who want to think women and men are the same thing, but male and females are just not put together the same way, and never were.
I'm not against women in the military, but we aught to not put them in places where a man is needed......

Whoops, I didn't mean to start a He/She, I can do anything better than you, battle. I was in the Navy for the Korean exercise and the early days of IndoChina/Viet Nam. The closest thing we got to actual combat training was shooting clay pidgeons off the fantail at sea and qualifiying with various small arms. I thought we should have gotten combat infantry training. At least a bit of it. Seventh Fleet did most of its work afloat. The chow was great.

I would like to know what military duties women were unable to perform? Your sports analogies are flawed. Professional sports seek out premiere athletes, in comparing men and women in sports women will not reach the premier level in a lot of them... The military is not looking for the premiere athletes. I have been around military folks all my life and there are many many Gomer Pyle's in the military.
I still would like to see the list of duties in the military that women cannot perform!
I would suggest that not only are your views chauvanistic but they are also bias based on your own personal views of what women are/should be!
No one suggests women are the "same thing" as men, but who are you to tell anyone let alone a women that she cannot do something?
