Hello,
I have two questions:
First of all is it good to fish in Tampa, FL? And do you know if the GPS system for mobile phones called Nav4All is supported by the local mobile operators?
Thanks a lot

Hello, and welcome to the fray. First question: Yes, it's good to fish anywhere there are fish. Second question: Dunno. You're welcome.

1)I'd prefer the Ocean near Tampa, FL than right downtown. But yes it is, as far as I know.
2)No, I don't.
3)Anytime...now prepare for my opinion---->
My cell phone does a crappy job just making phone calls some times. And even worse taking pictures. I would NEVER rely on just a cell phone as a navigational tool, especially since cell towers tend to be focused more towards cities & freeways where cell customers usually are, than open sea, where cell customers usually aren't.
Just get a good Garmin handheld if you want to go cheap. Also VHF radio for nautical communication. And always have up-to-date charts of wherever you are going, as long as its your boat. If it's chartered, dont worry about anything except landing your fish and making them clean and vacuum wrap it, then serving you a nice lunch.
BTW, before the "you have a crappy phone" flames start I have a Motorola Razr, and it's the best cell phone Ive ever had.

Ichy is right. I won't leave the dock without knowing that both of my radios are working and without a couple sets of backup batteries for the handheld in case other navs go down. These tools happened to have saved my life and a couple of friends of mine a few years ago when my powerboat decided to breakdown ten miles off Tatoosh with fog rolling in and no power to steer us off of the waves beating us from the sides as we were taking on more and more water. If I did not have the radio I coud not have made the mayday call, without the gps to give proper coordinates, it would have the taken the Coast Gaurd a much longer time to find us in the fog, in the open sea (possibly without the boat drifting with our lifevests beyond the recoverable stage of hypothermia). But as it were, we communicated coordinates pretty frequently while everyone bailed like madmen and the CG pulled right up to starbaord bow with about 150-200 foot visibility. Accidents happen at sea that you sometimes have no control of. Be prepared and don't become a statistic.

Ichy is right on the money.
Cell phones are another tool available but should not, in my opinion, be relied on to work when needed. Handheld or fixed GPS, VHF and CB radios are a must IMHO.

Hi guys,
I guess you don't care much about the oppinion of a girl, but stiil. I don't know about fishing. I have done it once, didn't like it. As far as the nav4all concern, I am using is for navigation in my car. It is very good and it is talking, so I can't get lost. By the way it is free so you can download it and try it.
Enjoy!

Annita - of course we care but sometimes too much. We care especially when fishing fashion is discussed which brings me to a question for you ~ Which brand of waders won't make my butt look fat?
