If the Democrats want the White House in 2008, they need a candidate from the mid-west or south, who is moderate to moderate-conservative, is religious, and with an unblemished record. PERIOD. Hardly anything else counts as of this moment. I'm no political consultant, but if the Dems don't understand this, then they really are too dumb to run the country.

I think that the democrats will jump and down nominating Hilary Clinton as the first viable woman nominee. The republicans will just smile and nominate a black female. Will the democrates bend and hint the Hilary is Gay? Just a funny thought.

Glad you agree. I may lean left, but I know enough to temper my idealism with pragmatism at key junctures in history, like a presidential election at a time when Republicans are even less trustworthy than Democrats.

Good point. A few short decades ago, the U.S. Senate was considered a good grooming platform for future presidents. But muck-raking was not in favor then, either. So the viable candidate should likely be a governor. Warner might hold the credentials.
