Like I said in the other thread, there are hundreds of thousands of unemployed people who not only would be good at rebuilding Iraq, but would be highly motivated to do so.
The Iraqi people...the ones that Halliburton and Bechtel passed over after the Bush Administration put them out of jobs, in favor of paying their own guys massive amounts of money to go over and work.
(The massive amounts of money is not Halliburton or Bechtel's...it is pass through taxpayer dollars from us, the citizens of the USA)
Fish on...

That was a great essay. Have to agree 96% with Frank Schaeffer. There's some great writing on that website.

I also think that the broader strokes in the article are well thought out...but comparing Iraq to WWII is an exercise in futility...up until we dropped the first bomb in Iraq, the two wars had absolutely zero in common.
The goals of the politicos ordering our military about had nothing at all in common with those of WWII...as the first wave a Marines crossed the border from Kuwait into Iraq, they were ordered to go straight to the oil wells and guard them...we were liberating something, but it sure wasn't people.
As the occupation continues, the "reconstruction" of Iraq is moving at a snail's pace, and at a massive economic cost to US taxpayers...while those favored no-bid contractors doing the work are siphoning billions out of our economy, and pocketing it.
There is no winning of the "hearts and minds" the way we are doing things...people can't get water or electricity, and skilled Iraqi workers sit idly by and watch ultra-expensive American contractors foul up the job over and over again.
The Iraqis, while this is going on, are also able to see the fast-track expansion of American corporatism into Iraq...everything is being privatized by the U.S., and that is going off without a hitch, quickly and efficiently.
When people aren't allowed to work, can't get basic necessities, and have an occupying army/corporate contractor right there to blame for it, they join the insurgency, and shoot at those people.
As long as we are there, and they are not getting their basic needs met, there will always be an insurgent to replace the one we kill.
The only thoughtful comparisons to be drawn between the two wars is that for the troops on the ground, war sucks. Other than that, the two wars couldn't be more different.
Fish on...

AuntyM, Have you read something on another board that sounds...oh, maybe plagiarized? Todd, Todd, Todd...I have trouble reading your terrorist sympathizing, left wing, politico-babble. Confusing us with factual arguments is just another discredited mode of bringing down True Americans. We all know that True Americans do not question the judgement of our anointed leaders. That demoralizes the cause of rightousness, and puts doubts in the minds of our youth. And I use to think you loved America.

So Sorry Auntie. I have disappointed others on occasion too. lol I thought the article was a stand alone bit of information. Didn't think it begged discussion. Actually, between the 10 plus days in the land of 50 billion mosquitoes and then the last 30 or so days trying to get the Lupo off my boots, I have had to realize a reduction in my discretionary internet time. Oh the pain of it all. But you gotta admit some of the alleged incipient discussions aren't worth the effort. Btw How could I, a mere plebe, even consider a contest with the erudite, legally educated, spokesman for the eternally politically frustrated, Todd. He would kick my butt every time. He is so well balanced in matters political and ethical not to mention the debating skills I just haven't got a chance. I sometimes feel some guilt just by my presuming to distract the Centurion.

lupo, I bet working over there is a lot more profitable that the view from the rooftops in the Puget Sound area. If you are physically fit you might test the water, er sand. I would, but the powers that be consider me an old piece of flatulence. They won't let me re-up. Bummer. Now if I was just the Immortal. Glad to see you're Ok. I was afraid something unpleasant might have happened to you. Stay well and happy.

Of course I do it for my ego. What else is there? Yore so vain she said. lol. There's always a chance of turning on a light now and then. But can't bet on it. The other board is no more impressionable than this one. A bit less cynical perhaps. Do you think I set out to impress anyone? I've been chastized for using the language as best I can, before. If one can use what they have been taught at great expense to the taxpayer, why not. Beats being a total waste. Although some wallow in the fractured language trough. Closet rebels I guess. Have a nice evening. My followers???
