I'm new to drift boating and this board. My used Diamond Back came with a 30# pyramid anchor that is past it's prime. I think the previous owner allowed his kids to play with the foot release system in the driveway. The anchor is currently shaped closer to a cannon ball than a pyramid.

I'd like to recast the anchor or have it recast. Until they closed last week, Baxter's here in Eugene would recast anchors. Do any of you know where a mold could be purchased or someone who will recast anchors in the Eugene area?

Any help, guidance or advice will be appreciated.

Have you tried it in the river? Might not be a problem. The point on the end isn't really that important. You just want some edges on the upper side to catch on rocks.

I've tried it in the McKenzie a couple times with limited success. I understand anchor line scope and had plenty of rope out. The top corners are rounded.

A friend with experience said that my best bet was recasting or replacing. Replacement about $35 at Joe's. Won't break the bank but, seems a waste. Also seems recasting may be a niche market for part time business.

I'd just get the new anchor and keep that one for a spare. If you were bored and really had nothing to do, you could try to pound new corners onto it with a sledge. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Thanks for the advice. Since I'm going to buy a new anchor, should I get another 30# or step up to 35#? I'll be fishing most of the time with one other person. Boat is 16' x 54".

I have a melting pot that will hold about 100#'s so I do my own..I have lots of lead so I can add to it in the mold which I made and have # marks on it....Anyone close by that wants an anchor remolded let me know....Give me your anchor and 20.00 and I'll melt down and add back to weight and give you new...TM

When I put an anchor nest in my boat, I pounded on the thing for awhile to make it fit, but I was only shaping the bottom of the anchor.
Buy a #35 over the #30. I have the heavier one and really like it better. You still won't hold in fast water, but that would be dangerous anyway. You can hold anywhere it is safe enough to anchor with a #35. My buddy has a #30 and we are always coming off anchor, which freaks me out

More good advice. It looks like I'll be buying a 35#. I wish I was closer so I could take advantage of having my current one recast to 35#. $20 seems a fair price and well worth it.

From reading posts from other newbies, I seem to owe a story.

the anchor that came with my boat has a aluminum case around it, i didnt think i would it but so far its ok, it will never lose its shape and always fits in the holder, i prefer glass boats and like tin boats but when guys ask me about the aluminum around the anchor i cant help but say, "well you know how sticky tin is on rocks, why not make an anchor out of one" dont get me wrong both glass and tin boats got there places
